"Hush, child", mother whispered to me. Her black hair buried my tear-stained face. "You knew this had to happen. It happens to all of us eventually."

Mother smiled at me in front of my parent's corpses. She held me, supporting my weight against her hip as she bounced me. Cold radiated from them into the entire room sending chills down my arms.

"You'll be okay."

Sirens blared.

Lights flashed.

I was, of course, terrified, but mother brought me home.
