Roommates

Chapter 1

"Goodnight everyone!" I say as I walk towards the door.

"Goodnight chef!", "See you next time chef" are the responses I receive. I smile to myself as I walk out. I still haven't quite gotten used to being called chef everyday, and I don't think I will. It's been about three years since I opened my own bakery and became head chef at the best restaurant in town. I begin walking to my car as my phone starts buzzing.

"hello?" I answer without looking at the caller ID.

"Hey babe, what are you up to?" Kai says on the other line. My smile grows as I know who it is.

"I'm good, just got off of work, it's been a long day. Why whats up?" I reply.

"Oh nothing I was just calling you to see how you were, I haven't seen you since Friday." he answers.

"Haha It's only Saturday, you saw me yesterday." I laugh "you are so cute." I finished.

"Yeah I know." he says, and I can tell he is smirking.

"Alright, I'm about to start driving so I'm going to let you go so I don't wreck." I say as I crank up my car.

"Okay I'll text you later." He hangs up.

"well bye to you too." I say aloud to myself. I take my phone out and start playing some music for my drive home.

After a few minutes into my drive I get a text.

Trev: can you pick up some milk on your way home? I put the last bit in my cereal:)

Me: yeah I'll get some. Why did you eat cereal for dinner again?

Trev: Hey I happen to like cereal

Me: I know you like cereal, I do the grocery shopping:))

Me: I'll get more milk, but you are going to eat the leftovers I'm bringing from work.

Trev: yes mom:)

Me: haha you are soo weird

I make the turn to go to the grocery store. I walk in and get the milk, I also grab a few other things like Ice cream and chocolate and head to the checkout. I get everything back to the car and head home. As I'm walking up the stairs to my door I see one of Trevor's friends leaving.

"Oh hey Dani!" He says as he sees me and he leaves my door open for me to walk on in.

"Hey! did you want to stay for dinner?" I ask as we pass.

"Oh no, I have a date with my girl. Thank you for the offer though!" He starts down the stairs.

"No problem, maybe next time. Have fun!" I respond. I shut the door with my foot.

"Trev come grab this before I drop it please!" I say loudly so he could hear me from where-ever he was.

Trev takes the container of food out of my hands. "Thank you." I say as he takes the food to the kitchen area.

"No problem." he responds as he fixes a plate of food for himself. I put the ice cream in the freezer and the milk in the fridge. I put the chocolate on the counter and get myself a plate of food.

I sat beside Trev on the couch and let out sigh. "Rough day at work?" Trevor asks as he scoops some food into his mouth.

"Ehh kinda. It just feels nice to sit down and take off my shoes." I say as I place my shoes on the side of the couch.

"Yeah I feel that. They had me standing a lot for the shoot today, my feet kinda hurt too." he says propping one of his legs on top of the other.

"At least we are both off tomorrow." I say with a bit of excitement. "We don't have to wake up early, we can stay up late." I say as I begin to eat my food.

"Yep, so what kind of movie are we going to watch?" he says looking at me with food in his mouth.

"Don't talk with your mouth full" I laugh. "you already know what movie I want to watch." I say giving him a look.

"Again?" He wines. "Can we please watch Jumanji....please?" he says, giving me puppy eyes.

I roll my eyes playfully "of course we can." I smile.

"Yay!" he says as he puts it on.

I finish my food, so I stand to take my plate to the sink. I take Trevors plate to the kitchen too.

"Do you want me to make some popcorn?" I ask from where I stand.

"Yeah" he replies. I put the popcorn in the microwave and head to put on my pajamas while it pops. When I come out of the bathroom my phone dings.

Kai: GN babe I'm really tired I'll call you tmrw

Me: Okay goodnight

I put my phone back on the counter and take the popcorn out of the microwave. I take a large bowl and dump the popcorn into it. I add some flavored popcorn salt and head to the living room where Trevor is waiting on me. As soon as I sit down my phone rings. "*Call from Dad*" my phone tells me. I stand up and go answer it.

me: "Hello?"

Dad: "Hey hun how are you?"

Me: "I'm good. Trev and I are about to watch a movie. how are you?"

Dad: "I'm good. So I can assume you still live in an apartment with that roommate, Trevor, of yours? Hun you run your own business and you're head chef at that restaurant you work at. I don't see why you don't get a place by yourself, plus what does Kai think of you living with another man?"

Me: "Dad.....first it's a small bakery, and second who cares if I'm head chef at that random ass restaurant that you and mom never come to anyway. And don't talk about him like you havn't known him for 16 years, I will move into a place by myself if and when I feel like I am ready. Plus Kai does not care, he knows that Trevor is my friend, and has been since elementary school, but that is none of your concern. If I wanted someone to tell me how I should live and who I should live with, I would still be living with you and mom. Is there anything else I can help you with or did you just call to question my decisions. I'm a grown woman, I will live my life how I want to."

Dad: "Alright, alright. I'm sorry. I was just calling to check in on you. Love you.

Me: "Love you too....Bye" I hang up and drop the phone back down.

"Okay, now we can watch the movie. Sorry about that." I say to Trevor as I plop back down onto the couch.

"No worries. Don't let him get to you D." he says trying to comfort me.

"I try not to but he treats me like I'm still 16 or something. I am 26 years old. I'll live with a roommate for however long I feel like it." I laugh as I say the last few words.

"Okay let's start this movie." he says pressing play and grabbing a handful of popcorn.
