Hopeless But Still Hoping.

Chapter 1

To my surprise I woke up quite early this morning... 8:45 and mom didn't have to wake me. I just woke up. So right now I'm cleaning my room and checking my phone for some new messages and emails from school. Since it's the community college, classes aren't compulsory and most of the work is self-study.

I'm actually enjoying my course. I'm doing a Diploma in Fine Arts. Not my first choice or second or tenth but yes I'm just doing something for the sake of doing something. I didn't want to waste a whole year and just sit at home and watch TV so now I sit, read a chapter than watch some TV.

I'm scrolling through the gram when I come across Kennedy's latest story. It's a photo of her and I spot a few unfamiliar faces. She got into her dream school and it's their orientation week. I can't help but feel something... I wouldn't call it jealousy or anything but I just think life is unfair. I know I'm smarter than Kennedy she knows it too. Which is why it sucks that I didn't get into my dream varsity. I guess we've always been in competition. She used to be better than me back in Middle School but I managed to beat her in High School. It's either I was first or she was but through all that competition and academic rivalry she was still my best friend.

Although we were not in the best place when Ken left for college earlier this year. We are still friends but are currently not on speaking terms and I honestly don't even know why. I lost track after the 8th fight or so. Growing up we never really fought or anything but in senior year last year all we did was fight which is why we both started to hang out with different crowds. Making friends was obviously not an obstacle for us because we were both quite popular.

Nevertheless I'm happy for my girl. Putting my phone in my pocket I head downstairs.

"Morning Mom"

"You up early" she says and I sit down next to her.

"What's for breakfast" I ask her and she just looks at me. After some time she replies "There's some left over Macaroni and Cheese in the fridge"

I head straight to the kitchen to warm some up.

"Do you want some!" I scream.

"No thanks, I just had some tea"

The microwave stops and I take out my food to eat. Too lazy to walk back to the living room. I grab a chair and sit at the kitchen table opening Netflix on my phone. When I'm done I wash my dish and head to the fridge once again to get something to drink.

I see we are out of sodas and head back to the living room to go watch some TV. I end up watching a movie. In the middle of the movie mom ask me to go buy some soda at the convenient store around the corner.

Irritated I head out. It's a walking distance so there is no need for me to take the car and even if I wanted to...I can't drive. So as I'm walking I see a truck pull up at the Jacob's house where there's been a (for sale) sign up which seems like forever. I guess they finally sold it. I'm about to take the corner when I get a glimpse of two boys. One is typing on his phone, the other one is looking straight at me. Uninterested I take the corner and head straight to the store.

Not bothered with the new neighbors, I don't even throw a glance as I take the corner once again, now headed home. As I get back inside I put the Sodas on the island.

"Hey mom I see there are new people moving into the Jacob's house"

"Finally some new neighbors huh?" she says as she walks down the stairs dressed in a black dress and some blue flats.

"I guess so" I reply

"Maybe we must head over sometime tomorrow when they are all settled in" she says

"Yeah no I'm not doing that" I say looking at her

She puts the sodas in the fridge and chuckles "You so full of yourself Sarah"

"I know right" I smile going upstairs to my room to go fetch my laptop.

"Okay I'm leaving... I'm so late" she says about to head towards the door.

"Fashionably Late" I say as I head back downstairs. "Where you going?"

"Last minute meeting" she says and opens the door.

"Well enjoy" I say as I sit at the kitchen table opening my laptop.

"Love you be back in a few" she says closing the door behind her

I'm about to log in when I remember I didn't finish my movie. I close the laptop and head to the couch already tired and its not even 13:00 pm

I'm working through some things when mom opens the door

"Guess who I ran into"

"Adam Sandler"

"Ha ha very funny. Cheryl she just moved in at the Jacob's. I guess she's the new neighbor you told me about. Anyways she seems so sweet and invited us for dinner tomorrow"

"To be fair he is a very good actor...Oh and I'm not going" I say suddenly irritated.

"Yes you are" mom replies.

"Nooo why do I have to go Mom"

"Because I said so and dress cute she might just have kids" mom says.

"Uhhhhhhhh I have tons of friends" I say looking straight at mom.

"Oh yeah when was the last time they visited" Mom asks.

I look away not ready to have this conversation. I guess it's an early night for me

"Goodnight" I say heading to my room not really angry at mom just irritated.
