9. The Doctor, The Soldier, and The Genius

Lucy went to the lab to work with Bruce as Steve had left with Natasha. She walked in to see Bruce already at work. She walked over to one of the desks and inspected the equipment.

"Hello, Miss Stark," Bruce said without looking up. Lucy glanced in his direction.

"Hi Doctor Banner," she replied causing him to smile.

"Just Bruce is fine."

"Well, you can call me Lucy." Bruce let out small laugh.

"Alright, Lucy. So. I understand you're Tony Stark's cousin?"

"That's right. His father, Howard, was my cousin. Have you met Tony before?" The Doctor shook his head. "He's similar to his father in so many ways it's amazing..."

"Anything else to tell about yourself? Personality, family."

"My mom left when I was a kid after divorcing my dad and moved who-knows-where, not writing or anything.. I grew up with Howard and my Uncle most of my life due to dad's depression and alcohol addiction. I was always called "Lucky" by my family, and some close friends like Steve. I'm a mechanical engineer. I know a bit about biology, minored in chemistry and I love astronomy. Not really anything else."

"Well, you're one of the worlds first superheroes, thats pretty amazing."

"I-I guess... So, Bruce, what can you tell me about yourself?"

"Not anything of interest."

"You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, Doctor."

Bruce sighed as he tried to distract himself with his work. "My father was an alcoholic. He hated me, especially when it came to loving my mother who always cared for me. She was killed by my father when she interrupted my father's abuse toward me. I began living with my aunt and cousin when my dad was arrested. I've been bullied in school. Exposure to Gamma Radiation caused me to have the ability of transforming into... the Other guy. I've been on the run for a while due to that. I try and go to secluded, out of the way areas where there aren't many people for me to hurt. Nothing else." Lucy gave him a look of empathy.

"I'm sorry."

"Thanks. It's alright though. Turns out we both have something in common."

"Now that you mention it, we do." The two continued conversing while Lucy began to work. Lucy looked out into the hall when she saw a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. soldiers walking down it, a man wearing green and gold walking in the middle of the group. He looked into the lab and smiled. Bruce took off his glasses as they walked by, and pressed his the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger. Natasha walked into the room a little later saying Fury wanted everyone to meet in the debriefing room. They walked in seeing an unknown man with blond hair standing with the group. He introduced himself to the Doctor and Sergeant as Thor Odinson from Asgard. Lucy walked over to Steve, sitting next to him as they all began either watching or listening to Fury confront Loki. When the confrontation was done, the camera footage disappeared.

"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Banner asked after the screen went black. Steve looked up.

"Loki's gonna drag this out," he stated looking to Thor. "So, Thor, what's his play?"

"He has an army called the Chitauri," Thor replied after coming back from his daze. "They're not of Asgard or any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the Earth. In return, I suspect, for the Tesseract."

"An army? From outer space?"

"So he's building another portal," Bruce began saying, "That's what he needs Erik Selvig for."
