Broken.
That's how you would describe your relationship at the moment. Ever since Sir Nighteye died Mirio had been distant. He'd be out late at night almost every day. In the morning Mirio would practically drag himself back to the dorms. He would ignore your calls and avoid you in the halls. It stung, to say the least. Today would be different though, you would MAKE him pay attention to you. Whether he wanted to or not.
"Toogata, we need to talk." You stated as you all but ran into him.
"Y/N...now is not the best time....maybe later I'll see you around-"
You cut him off "No. Mirio I get that you're grieving...I know that it hurts, but you're hurting me. I just want to help you. Please just let me-"
A muffled buzzing from Mirio's pocket drew your attention away from the conversation. Quickly, Mirio fished his phone out from his pocket and looked at the screen. "I'm sorry I-"
He started apologizing, but something felt off about it. It was rushed as his voice started to fade as he walked away. "It's whatever," you said "just meet me in my room, tonight maybe. We just really need to talk." "Yeah, see you later," Mirio said avoiding eye contact as he scurried away. A sinking feeling in your stomach began to rise as you thought of What he could be in such a hurry for.
You had just gotten out of the shower thinking of how grateful you were that 3rd-year dorms had their own bathrooms. Just as you finished putting on your pajamas you heard a knock at your door. "Ah that must be Mirio," you thought as you put your damp hair into a messy bun while walking to the door. You opened the door ready to greet Mirio with a hug. "U-uh Y/N-chan c-can I come in?" You stepped back surprised to hear the stammering voice of Tamaki "oh uh sure." You said as you stepped aside letting Tamaki walk past you and into your room. He stood there in a stiff stance nervously fiddling with his hands.
"There's something I n-need to tell you-" just as you were closing the door a flash of baby blue came racing through your door. "WHAT THE-" you yelled startled by the sudden force that slammed into you. "Y-y/n-chan" Nejire huffed out "Mirio- we need to tell you something about him." She said as she went to sit on your bed and catch her breath. "H-hold nejire-chan I-I was about to tell her," Tamaki said as he twiddled his thumbs anxiously. "Ok ok, what on EARTH is going on here?" You said. "Look as your best friends, we d-don't want to see you get hurt anymore," Tamaki said looking at you directly. "What are you talking abt-" "Look you should sit down-," Nejire said patting the empty space next to her with a sad look. "No! I want to know what on Earth is going on!" You said, your voice raising as confusion and frustration started to boil to life. "Y/n-chan you really should.." Tamaki said looking at the floor. "NO! JUST TELL ME-" "Please y/n-chan-" "JUST TELL ME- "MIRIOS' CHEATING ON YOU!" Tamaki yelled. Both you and Nejire were taken by surprise by his sudden outburst.
"What..." you said quietly, disbelief filled your voice as your eyes started to feel warm. Why did your eyes feel warm? Why did your face feel wet? Tears? Why were you crying? You chuckled. They were lying haha what a funny joke. Right? They looked at you sadly "Y/N-" "you're lying." You cut nejire off. "W-we thought you wouldn't believe us," Tamaki pulled out his phone and showed you a picture. It was Mirio. He was smiling and laughing but not with you. In the picture was a girl. She had curly brown hair, olive skin, and a gorgeous smile. You felt the warmth build up in your eyes again. They were telling the truth.
"I'm so sorry-" " when" you paused not trusting your voice as a lump swelled in your throat. "When was this taken?" "Two days ago..we have more prior if you want-" "No I-I believe you." Nejire stood up and walked to you, putting her arms around you to try and soothe your internal pain. Tamaki did the same. Suddenly there was a voice " Y/N- are you-" it was Mirio. His voice filled with slight concern when he saw you. He felt pain and guilt twinge in his heart as he looked at your broken body on the floor with Tamaki and nejire being your body's only support. Your face was sticky, red, and hot as tears adorned your cheeks. "I'm/N can I talk to you-" he inched closer only to be cut off by your sobs. "Just leave, Mirio," Nejire said with a sneer, looking up at him with angry eyes before turning back to comfort you. Mirio turned to Tamaki, his best friend, for help. Tamaki turned to face him and slowly shook his head without making eye contact. "J-just leave..." he said with a soft voice that was barely about a whisper. Mirio felt his eyes water before turning on his heel and walking out of the room. With him home, it was just Tamaki and Nejire there trying to comfort you in such a vulnerable state. "I should have known...." You said in between sobs in a broken voice. "I.....should....have...known" you sputtered out.
