If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.- Jane Austen

"Daniel-?" Annabelle stated in shock "What are you doing here?" She asked, he smiled, his freckles scrunching as if she'd said a joke.

"I- well..." she stuttered because truly she didn't know what to say, "Daniel! Oh, how lovely it is to see you" Her grandmother exclaimed, arms gracefully opening for an embrace

Even Annabelle had never been allowed a hug from this woman. Yet here she was hugging a tall Italian boy who wasn't related to her.

"Miss Rose, it is beyond meravigliosa to look at your bella face once again" Annabelle scoffed just quiet enough that her grandmother wouldn't notice.

She couldn't help it. the situation she was in was entirely too odd.

"Oh my, you've grown so much darling boy, your parents must be so proud,"

She said, that once unchanging face in a slight smile content with his appearance in front of her. Apparently, Daniels's smile, despite already being one of the nicest things Annabelle had ever seen even warmed the cold...no frozen heart of the devilish woman in front of her

'Come- come inside They are waiting to see you again" He ushered, walking towards the doors which were held open by servants. It began to click within Annabelle's head.

Daniel was... he was Daniel Romano..as in the son of Giulia Romano and Leo Romano, two of the wealthiest people in the world. They were known for their trading, wide resources across the globe and impeccable charm. Annabelle had often heard their names talked about at parties when she was just a child. And now here she stood in front of their holiday home.

Her grandmother began to follow Daniel inside and still in a state of utter disbelief, Annabelle followed.

The butler showed them to a grand tea room where a couple sat each in their own chair, the husband with a foreign newspaper in hand that she knew wasn't Italian. And the wife reviewing documents of paper for something that seemed important.

Once they both however noticed Annabelle and her grandmother's presence they stood, smiles breaking across their faces

"Hello! Welcome  welcome oh my it is so lovely to see you Duchess"
Her grandmother's hand offered itself to Mr Romano who kissed it whilst smiling. "I'm so glad you came!" He said, staring at the group of people now in his living room.

And with that, Annabelle realised she had walked into a rabbit trap.

"Annabelle it's so lovely to meet you" She smiled warmly in response to the words being spoken by Mrs Romano, despite knowing exactly what this entire 'visit' was.

Yet even despite this she simply couldn't help but be drowned in the warmth and love this family exuded. Daniel would grin and giggle every time his mother began to gush over Annabelle, calling her a 'doll' and a 'princess', only being even more enthralled with Annabelle when she found out she was fluent in five languages.

The conversations were varied and plentiful as they all sat around the table for lunch, the sun shining in through the large glass pane windows. The smell of herbs and cheese and tomato wafting around like a spell seducing Anna's senses.

Annabelle hadn't felt this much joy in a house in so long, it felt truly intoxicating. She didn't want to leave,  jokes even her grandmother would laugh at were passed around like sweets. Conversations on land the Romanos owned and places Annabelle had never even heard of were told and she felt for the first time in so long, welcomed into a family without an ounce of pity.
