Tears Are Not Enough ☼

BABY WAS TAKING AN TEST IN CLASS, sat between JT and some other random girl. She could feel the boy trying to peek a look at her paper, making her roll her eyes.

"Psst!" JT whispered

Baby glanced up at him, and he looked at her paper, "JT, I literally helped you study last night. Number ten is A, but you gotta figure out the rest by yourself."

He sighed, filling in the one she gave him, beside going back to try and fill out the rest.

After the class finished, they were all dismissed to go off to lunch. I sat at one of the outdoor tables to work on my homework, when JT decided to approach her

"What do you need, JT?" Baby asked the boy. When he didn't answer, she snapped her fingers in front of his face, "JT? You there?"

"Uh, Hi." He smiled

"I know what you're going to ask. I tried tutoring you last night and it didn't work, so if we try again are you actually going to work?" She questioned

"Yes, I will. Will you help me, Baby? Please? Pretty please with a cherry on top?" He begged, making me laugh

"Okay, here's the deal. If I tutor you, then you have to come with me to the dance." I smirked

"What? Wouldn't you want to go with someone else?" He asked

"If you want me to continue to be your tutor, then you'll have to deal with me at the dance." She restated 

"Fine, but answer me this. Why not Sean or something?" He asked

"First of all, Emma and Sean are dating. Second, I'd have more fun with a friend than any of the other guys. I think my moms miss seeing you, too." Baby shrugged with a small smile

"Okay, sounds like fun." He nodded, before walking over to Toby, explaining everything that had just happened, "Okay. Maybe you don't get it, all right? Baby asked me to go to the dance with her."

"She's helping you get through exams, and asked you to the dance. What's so bad about that?" Toby shrugged, confused as to why the boy didn't want to go to the dance with his best friend

"What about my dream? Paige, dancing with me?" The Yorke boy sighed, imagining a dance with the prettiest girl at school

"Are we not talking about the same person. Baby Roberts, your best friend and one of the prettiest girls in our grade, asked you to the dance and you're thinking about Paige?" Toby laughed, completely lost at this point

"Well, I could still ask Paige out." JT suggested, ignoring what Toby had said about Baby. Baby doesn't like guys like him. She likes guys like Spinner. She'd never think about him that way. They were too close to be anything else

"You can't use Baby to pass, then dump her and go with Paige, Romeo." Toby laughed

"Oh. Flash cards. Quel Surprise." JT joked, as he watched Baby walk towards them with a smile on her face.

"Capitols of Europe, go!" She spoke, sitting down between the two boys on the steps

"Albania? Tirana. Austria? Vienna. Belarus? Minsk. Hello?" He questioned, when the blonde got distracted

"Sorry. My mom has been bugging me about the dance. She wants me to wear a something she wore when she was young, but that completely ridiculous." Baby admitted, as Toby walked off

"Baby, it's a Luau, okay? Tell your mom you don't need some old hand me down. I mean it's not even a" JT started, before she interrupted him

"I know. It's not a real date, we're friends, JT. My mom is just over the top sometimes." The blonde groaned

"Ok. Moving on." He agreed

Baby sighed, pushing the slight rejection to the back of her mind, before picking up the flash cards.

After the geography exam, the blonde noticed JT and Toby talking to Paige, so she approached them to ask how it went, "Toby. JT. How'd the exam go?"

"Uh. Can we maybe talk later?" JT asked

"Okay, but you didn't let Toby answer." Baby laughed at the awkward boy

Toby seemed excited to be included in the conversation, and was about to answer the girl's question, before Paige interrupted, "Okay, I'd love to stay and soak up the collective joy, but - the million dollar question, re: The dance?"

"Yeah. The Hawaiian surf paradise." JT nodded

Baby was confused as to why JT had been asking the older girl about the dance, but didn't care enough to say anything about it.

"Heather Sinclair's title, not mine." Paige corrected, hating the name

"Whatever. Do you want to... help Baby pick out an outfit?" JT asked

"Well, that's definitely not what you wanted to really ask." The short blonde whispered to her best friend, making him feel guilty

"Sure. You know, for a minute I thought you were going to ask me to go." Paige laughed, before walking away

"Wouldn't that be odd?" Baby fake laughed, glaring at JT before following after the older girl

She knew she shouldn't be upset, but JT obviously didn't want to go to the dance with her. It's a little upsetting that he couldn't have just told her so, instead of leading her on.

When the dance did finally roll around, Baby stood at the drink stand with JT, drinking out of coconuts. She decided to forget what happened earlier, and just have fun. She thought she was just thinking too deeply into things.

Mr. Simpson stopped the music to announce Luau king and queen, which were Ashley and Craig.
