The drive back home was a slow and tedious one. None of us had uttered single a word for the whole twenty-four hours. Each of us were deep in our own dark thoughts. What would happen when we finally each our destination? What would be waiting for us?
The trees moved quickly pasted us as we got closer in closer to our bright city. The world seemed a little dimmer, the lights of the tall building didn't shine as brightly any more. Everyone seemed to be a dull gray, moving at a slow pace around us. Eventually, we pull up to that hellish motel. In my new found sight on the world, the dirty run-down place seemed even more so like a lair for lost broken souls. The people who loitered here was an unlucky lot of fine dust lost to the world. No hope lies here.
"Justice?"
I'm shaken from my depressing thoughts, glancing up a concerned Callum stare down at me. "Are you okay?" I shake my head, "I-I'm not okay, I'm scared." He looks at me, the concern written all over his face growing deeper, pulling me from the vehicle he embraces me. Patting my hair, he gives slow whispers of hushed words.
"It's okay, I'm scared too but I'll try not to be for you, we are in this together you know, that right? I would never let harm come to you or your family, not anymore."
We stayed like this for a while, drowning all the outside noises around me as I listen to his calming heartbeat. I won't be scared; I have to be brave. I know I'm not facing this alone, and that is enough for me. I move away from him, wiping my tears with a smile. Okay... let's do this.
Hours went by as we sat in a small cramped room planning over and over how to bring on the downfall of Victor Cortez. Finally, we had come up with a foul proof plan hopefully. The plan was a risky one, but if executed correctly it would be well worth it. We would need help and lots of it, I know just who to call.
An hour went by before there's a knock on the door. "Aye, open up this door so I can whoop you!" a familiar voice calls out, followed by more voices agreeing. I laugh as I unhinged the door from its locks. Before I could even get the door fully open, when in barged my group of friends looking bent out of shape.
"What the hell Justice! where have you been? And why the fuck are you with this dipshit?" Monica shouts, nearly knocking my eardrums out.
"Yeah, he's an asshole, why are you cooped up in some shitty motel with him?" Zane booms as he reaches for me, pulling me away from Callum."
The twins stand in front of me as Amaya goes to Monica's side; her face twisted with confusion and unease. Oh gosh, I should have known they would blow a gasket. They hate Callum with a passion and I honestly can't blame them for how he behaved but, he's different from how it all seems. I wiggle my way out of Zane's arms, taking a deep breath I clap loudly to quiet them down.
"Guys, I'm fine. Well, actually we're not fine and we need your help."
Callum finally stands from the spot he occupied on the twin bed. He looked around at everyone before hanging his head low, fist balled up at his side. "I... I'm sorry for everything I put you through, I was just so angry, so sad and helpless. I took it out on you, and that was wrong of me to do, I... we just need your help, please." His voice is hoarse from holding back a flood of emotions, I could hear the sorrow and misery in each word he spoke.
"What exactly is going on?" Monica questions. She glances back and forth between us, "Oh gosh! Are you pregnant!" her eyes goes as big as a barn owls.
"What! WOAH no I am not pregnant, what the actual fuck Monica!"
Callum jumps, head snapping fast towards Monica.
"What? you guys are acting weird and are in a motel, what did you expect me to think."
The twins burst out in laughter, hanging on to each other. Shaken my head at the group of idiots, I quickly get things back under control. I tell them the real reason I came here and why Callum is involved, the room is heavy with a mix of emotions, anger, sadness, surprise and disgust. Amaya and Monica are a mess of salty tears as they each cling onto me. The twins are crestfallen, and Zane stormed out of the room.
"Can someone get him, please?" No one seems to want to move. Callum stands up and walks silently out of the room. A few moments passed before he came back, Zane trailing behind him.
Zane stops in front of me, a look of determination in his eyes "What is it you need us to do?"
And so, our plan commences.
*Callums POV
Justice had convinced her friends to help us. I was very grateful they had forgiven my awful behavior towards them; they are all so kind and honest. For the plan to begin, I first need to go home and face my father alone. As I approached the house it got harder and harder for me to walk, my legs felt as if I was dragging them through cement. The lights were all shut off, and it seems like no one was around. Stepping into the house, the air felt cold, I slowly make my way around as quietly as I could, confirming my earlier thoughts that the house is indeed empty.
Quickly making my way into the back, I unlock the door the door letting in the twins. We make quick work of our task and within the hour they are back out the door. Now I play the waiting game.
