Isha's lips pulled a smirk. "Prez, we love trouble. Watch out. This year is going to be a blast."

Was that...a threat?

I nodded in a way that came off way more confidently than expected. "Definitely."

Isha whistled, genuinely intrigued. "The president agrees."

"I love your hair today, Goldilocks," Carmen said, sneaking up behind her and casually tugging at the ends of her blonde braids. Startled, Lily squeaked out a gasp and inched closer to me.

Isha snorted to Lana and my ears caught her mumble," These two ducklings are going to rule the school?"

Kevin rolled his eyes but rapidly darted his eyes down to his lunch tray when Carmen raised a brow at him.

Meanwhile, I shot Isha a challenging look, causing her to raise a surprised brow before saluting with the can of soda in her hand.

When I moved my gaze to Lana, her crow-black eyes met mine and I gave her a friendly smile, which she obviously didn't return. Instead, she darted her gaze to the floor and fiddled with the pair of black sweatbands on her wrists. She yawned like a drowsy cat and rested her head lazily on Isha's shoulder like she was craving a nap.

Honestly, so far she seemed like the least dangerous one of the whole gang. I just didn't get her expressionless face. Either she looked gloomy with her eyeballs way up to her forehead or her face was completely blank.

Sharing math and physics class with her and riding our bikes home on Friday last week wasn't so bad, to be honest. Despite being the type of person who barely said ten words per day, she seemed like a decent person. Plus, she was insanely good at math and physics.

When The Sirens left, Ali put his hand on my shoulder and gave it a brief squeeze. "They're gonna create hell for you."

I shuddered. "No kidding. Avoiding The Sirens seems impossible. They look like they want to kill me. For fun."

Despite my words, amusement made Ali chuckle. "Nobody's interfered in their business before, so when you came between Kevin and Jada, they were as shocked as the rest of the school. Becoming their victim is a shit show. They'll dig your grave, man. You don't want any beef with them."

"Exactly. I don't want any beef with them. Just let them do whatever they want. I just want to focus on the student council."

"Don't worry. The Sirens and I are on good terms so I got your back."

I sighed. "Thanks, I guess."

Ali grinned. "Chill, dude. Let's go back to the student council thing."

~

By the time the last period ended, another student had come forward about that she wanted to join the student council. Sonya, a friendly Saudi-Arabian senior wanted more arrangements and social activities so that the teens could have something else to do outside during lunch breaks instead of smoking pot behind the school building.

"Okay, so now we only need one more member. Should we just wait until someone comes and says they want to join?" Kevin asked.
