"Wait students, one more thing."
Halfway out the door, everyone stops dead.
Ms Norbury's eyes sparkle and I already know what she's about to say.
"It gives me great pleasure to announce that we have succeeded in saving enough money for the Overseas Film Festival!"
Everyone starts chattering excitedly and punching the air, when Ms Norbury speaks again, more seriously this time. "But I expect you all to be packed and ready by next Monday. We meet at the bus-stop at seven, sharp. If you're not there, we will leave without you."
An uneasy silence follows.
"Alright get your asses outta here, but I'm serious, OK?"
Everyone files out, talking and laughing.
I hang back in the doorway, and Ms Norbury doesn't notice until I walk up to her desk.
"Cady. What can I do for you?"
She looks up and smiles.
I shuffle my feet.
"Um, Ms Norbury, I have this friend who really has a passion for film, and cinematography, a-and I was wondering if I could invite her along with us."
Ms Norbury looks down and shakes her head. "Really Cady? You know how long it's taken us to save for this, we really don't have the money for extras-"
I cut her off.
"I know, but I'm sure her parents could pay. Really it'd be no troub-"
She looks up at me with a sad expression.
"Cady, we've already booked the flight."
I close my mouth. I want to say a million things all at once, but all I can manage is a subdued "Oh."
She grimaces and nods.
Rises to her feet and takes up her book.
"Maybe next time."

"It's really not cool. Especially as I made a promise to Veronica that I'd get her a ticket too."
Janis smiles tightly. "Maybe you shouldn't make promises you don't know you can keep?"
I slouch on the wall next to her. "She's gonna be so disappointed." Janis shrugs. "It's the first time, but surely not the last time. Just apologise sincerely, and admit to your mistake. She'll forgive you."
"I hope you're right."
Ping.
"Crap, that's probably her."
I open my phone and see one new text:

I finally become aware that Janis is watching over my shoulder. I switch my phone off and groan. "I'm so stupidddd."
