General Hux sat on the chair in his quarters. He put his head in his hands.

Why was he doing this? Almost leading an empire stronger than its origins, one that mercilessly kills thousands of systems in one blow? Why did he continue when it felt so wrong, but so right?

He was so lost in his thoughts that he failed to notice the other figure that had come into his rooms.

"General?" Hux knew the voice. The voice that he hated, that hated him in return. But now it felt so soft to him.

He moved his head to look at Kylo Ren through his fingers. "What is it, Lord Ren?"

"I sensed something." Ren said, moving over to sit on the cold floor in front of him. Hux scoffed. "Lord Ren, your radar picked up the woes of your most hated ally? Will wonders never cease?"

"Look, General." Ren started, "You and I are not on the best of terms, we both know this. But I've recently found an.. interest in your backstory."

Hux was taken aback, but kept his emotion hidden. He scoffed again. "The First Order has no place for story time. I'm sure the rebel scum have plenty of it."

Ren seemed sad. "Not even one?"

Hux hesitated. Why was he possibly about to spill his whole story to Ren? But Ren's dark eyes... it was like he needed it.

"Ren.." Hux said slowly, "The things I'm about to tell you.. confidential, yes? Just between us."

Ren nodded, latching onto Hux's gaze, so their eyes met. Hux pulled himself together, and began.
