Chris chuckles, then walks the rest of the way into the room. He kneels down next to the hospital bed and kisses his girlfriend.
"God, I missed you." He murmurs against her lips before kissing her once more.
"I missed you too." She says, her green eyes beaming when they come apart.
"I got you more flowers." Chrs says, handing them to her.
She smiles and takes them, "Fake flowers again, huh? I can't wait until I can have real flowers again."
"I know, baby." Chris says. He sits on the edge of her bed, "I hear everything has been going well though."
"Well, considering this is my last week in the hospital - hopefully ever this time around - yes, things have been well."
"How's your mom been?"
"She's alright, I guess. She was here a while ago but she ran home to get a change of clothes. She'll be happy to see you though."
"She's been keeping me up to date with everything. We're both super excited that I finally get to take you home next week."
"I am too. This has been the longest month ever."
"You say that every time you do chemo."
"That's because it's true! I mean the nurses try to do a good job at making it homey here - as homey as a hospital room can be to a chemo patient - but I'm ready to be home where I can sleep in my own bed next to my boyfriend and I can shower in my own shower and be where it isn't so damn cold! The air conditioning in this place is ridiculous and my head is always cold."
"That's why I gave you my beanie."
"Yeah, but beanies don't stay on your head when you're trying to sleep."
Chris chuckles, "I love you." He says, kissing her temple "Marry me."
"No."
"Worth the shot."
"Ooh! What kind of Oreos did you bring me?"
Chris smiles, "Limeaid flavored."
"That sounds so weird. Gimmie one!"
"You know I'm not allowed to bring food in here."
"Damn bacteria paranoia."
Chris chuckles, then grows serious. He takes a close look at his girlfriend.
"Can I see?"
There's a pause.
"Okay." She says, quietly.
Chris nods. He removes the black beanie from his girlfriend's head, which no longer had any hair. It looked better though. You used to be able to see the tumor growing in her head - you no longer could though.
Chris gives a small smile, "You're getting so much better, baby."
"I don't feel like it. I still feel weak, I still am never hungry, I still feel...ugly."
"You are not ugly. You are the most beautiful girl in the entire world." Chris says, "Marry me."
"No." She exhales, "Speaking of beautiful though, I wanna show you something."
Chris nods. He stands, then takes her hands and helps her stand.
"I hate that I'm twenty-six and can't stand on my own."
"McKayla?" A nurse calls through the speaker next to the bed. This happened whenever a patient got out of bed in the cancer wing.
"I'm fine. I'm just showing Chris what I got the other day."
