Thranduil had been a little frosty towards me for the last few days. He was still friendly I guess, but not the way he was before.

I gave him respect for that. He had the right. I was the one who had betrayed him. He had been so kind, sparing me even thought I was a Green-Elf. But the question that spurred from his generosity lingered in my head and I just couldn't come up with an answer.

Why did it matter to him so much if I left?

Maybe he needed something from me? I guess I'd never know.

I got out a small dagger and started stabbing an old piece of wood repeatedly as I searched for an answer. Why would he need me so? He seemed so disappointed, so angry, yet so overprotective. He almost showed signs of actually caring about me. Which was unheard of.

I needed some fresh air. I was allowed outside into the woods, but only with a guard. I rolled my eyes. I was no child. I could take care of myself.

But maybe it was because he couldn't trust me anymore.

I walked briskly outside to an old tree. I got out my bow and started shooting at it for no particular reason. One arrow pierced a lonely centipede who was making its way into a hole. It reared for a second then died. "Serves you right," I muttered.

I heard the snap of a twig from behind me and immediately spun around to see Legolas. "What are you doing here?" I grumbled, annoyed at his company.

"I finished my guarding duties," he said cheerily, hopping next to me. "So I decided to join you." I rolled my eyes and went to get my arrow. I yanked it out when another arrow shot just past my ear, making me jump. I rolled my eyes again and pulled that one out as well.

"Really?" I said. He chuckled. I managed a small snicker.

But soon Legolas went quiet, and his laughter ceased. That could only mean one thing. I got out my sword and waited.

My heart jumped as an Orc pounced at me, and I sliced its head off just in time. Then about 40 orcs came out of the shadows and the fight began.

I sliced as many Orcs as I could, but then I realised something slightly strange. Most of the Orcs weren't attacking me. They saw me, but then just flicked their eyes away as if I was merely a breeze passing by. What was going on? Since when did Orcs not kill?

Soon, all of the Orcs stopped. "What in Illuvatar's name is going on?" I muttered, pushing my way through the group. I didn't need to push far to realise what was going on.

I shoved an Orc aside to see a knife at Legolas's thoat.

My eyes widened when I saw who was holding the knife. Had it been an Orc I would have just sliced its head off and been done with it. But I couldn't...because it was an Elf.

I had seen the Elf around a lot. He was part of the guard. "What do you think you're doing?" I said, outraged.

He smirked. "I simply joined the winning side," he said darkly, a dangerous look on his face as he dug the knife further into Legolas' throat. Legolas let out a sound like a wheeze.

"Let him go!" I said firmly, hoping he wouldn't see how afraid I was beneath my bravado. The Orcs started closing in around us.

"First things first," he said. I raised my eyebrows.

"You, come with me, and I'll let him go."

I backed up at the strange request, bumping into an Orc behind me. Why would he want me? I was nothing. I was...

Oh. Oh no. No. It was as I worst feared.

"Fine," I said, jutting my chin up.

I looked down at the young Elf Prince in front of me. "I'm so sorry, Legolas. This is why I came to Mirkwood in the first place. To warn you about -"

I was cut off by someone tying scratchy fabric around my lips, preventing me from speaking. I struggled as they tied my hands together.

"Go!" I said to Legolas in a muffled voice. He stared at me for a second before running back to the palace. I felt a sharp, snapping pain on my back and heard the Orcs behind me chuckling. Hot tears of rage formed in my eyes as I was shoved forward.

"Do not have hope," the traitorous Elf said. "You will never see them again."

Thranduil P.O.V

I was sprawled across my throne, lazily putting my head in my hand. The days just kept getting more tiring and tiring for me. Not to mention the issue of Celegwen. Oh Celegwen.

Where was she anyway? She was late.

I heard rapid footsteps coming into the throne room and sat up to look somewhat presentable. I drowsily made out Legolas running into the room. "Ada!" he puffed, coming to a stop.

"Legolas, you know how I do not appreciate it when you come bursting in like that," I yawned.

"But - "

"No."

"Ada - "

"No!"

"I - "

"Legolas!"

"It's Celegwen!"

I cocked my head. I had a bad feeling about what he was going to say. Squinting subtly, I nodded for him to continue.

"I was with her in the forest when we were attacked by Orcs. None of the Orcs were attacking her," he babbled. I frowned. Orcs would kill at any opportunity. An incident where an Orc has not killed on sight was almost unheard of.

"But then Durion came out from behind the trees and tried to kill me. He said if Celegwen went with them, I would live. She spared my life, ada. But now hers is in danger. She said that the reason she came to Mirkwood was to warn us about...whatever that was."

I waved at him in dismissal at him. He bowed and left, and I let his words sink in. No wonder Durion's name meant "dark one". He was a murderous, traitorous little bastard. If he ever elected to return, he would be thrown into the dungeon. After I had decided Durion's consequences, I realised Celegwen was taken. Taken away from me. Again.

This time she was actually gone. She spared my son's life. Intense, red emotions began bubbling over, clouding my judgement. But I knew I was only being selfish.

I needed to get her back. She needed to be back home. I just needed to figure out how.

I was going to tell her the three words I had only ever said to someone once in my life.
