It was April 3rd, 1911. I was sitting in my families parlor in the booming city of New York. I gazed out the window as the servants worked tirelessly in the garden, I often wished I could join them. Though mother always said a real women never gets her hands dirty. It was my seventeenth birthday, and all I wished for was to never be like her. Though here I was, waiting to meet the boy I was arranged to marry the following evening. I was to be his loyal wife for the rest of my days, bare his children, tend to his every need, be the perfect wife, though I never wanted any of those things. I wanted my own career, I wanted to spend my life having fun instead of being a mans loyal wife who never spent a moment for herself. Though what could I do? Nothing, and so here I am waiting for my life to end.
"Josette dear, there is a carriage waiting for you outside."
I quickly went into the gothic style carriage, confused because I thought he was coming to us. I leaned my head out of the window to talk to the carriage driver, only to find there wasn't one. The two jet black horses began galloping at a monstrous speed, the only light guiding them was the midnight moon. I realized if I jumped out now, I was as good as dead. We were headed down the trial into the woods, where almost nobody dared to venture down at this time. It was early march, the temperatures could still be frigid, and tales of creatures wondering those woods floated around here like the plague. I was always fascinated by those fairytales, and wondered if all the stories were myths.
Suddenly my thoughts were disturbed by a crack of thunder, splendid. I looked out the window and watched as we quickly approached Widows Bridge, the horses began to slide around on the slick dirt path. I held on for dear life, though the sudden storm seemed to be quite powerful. Before I knew it, the carriage flew off the rickety wooden bridge. We plummeted down into the depths of Wren's River, my screams of fright seemed to surround me. A bolt of light blinded my vision and then suddenly...
