When she had painted a fair picture with her words, she put the journal away and stared back up at the sky. "I wonder what's up there... Aside from that Moron and his friends..." Her eyes narrowed as she thought back to Wheatley. She wondered if he was still around, in orbit with Earth, or if he had drifted off into deeper space. She couldn't care either way. She was just glad she didn't have to deal with him.

She patted the ground and stood up, whistling for Corbin, and he hopped up to join her as she started walking.

To Caroline, the field never seemed to end. It was nothing but cold wheat stalks and some old rubble, if she was lucky enough to see it. Corbin had taken to flying overhead and scanning the area as well. The two continued on, wondering if they would ever find anything.

Staring at the ground, she saw something peculiar. The plant life before her had been crushed down, forming a trail that stretched on for miles. She had begun to follow it, wondering what it could have been left by.

Whatever it was, it would lead her to soemthing. She had a gut feeling about that. She'd always heard the expression, 'trust your gut,' and now she could.

They walked on for a few hours it seemed, and the sky began to take on a soft orange glow in front of them. Caroline looked upon the glowing horizon and saw something that startled her; towers.

Buildings. She saw what looked like a city ahead of her. It wasn't worn, either, the silhouettes were clean. Her pace sped up, and pretty soon, she was jogging in the direction of the far-off shaped. She hadn't strayed from the trail in the grass, either. It was leading her straight to where she wanted to go.

As she ran, she passed a few fence posts, a few more patches of rubble. As she grew closer to the city, the land became less of just a field, and more of a yard. A large, cold, grassy patch, on which her bare feet ached with each step she took. It was a new sensation, but she was beyond distracted from it.

In fact, she was so distracted by the shape of a city that she had ignored the fully-built cottage that she'd run past.

Corbin gave her a yell of warning, but she continued to run. He dove down in front of her and crowed, and she slowed to a stop. "What is it-?"

Before Corbin could lead her back to the cottage, a woman's voice boomed across the field. "STOP WHERE YOU ARE! SHOW ME YOUR HANDS!"

Caroline tensed, her eyes widening. She turned slowly with her hands in sight to the source of the voice.

Behind her, stood a tan woman in hunting clothes, and in her hand, a pistol. "Don't move... What's in that bag?"

Caroline cleared her throat. "My bag?" Corbin seemed to growl at the woman as she neared them with her gun. "Yes. Your bag." She grumbled, poking the bag with the end of the gun, as if she was worried that there might be something living in it.

Caroline raised a brow and pulled the bag away. "There's food and a journal.. in it...You're a human." She observed, turning completely to study the tall woman.

The two stared at each other, confused, as Caroline circled her. "What are you in such a rush to the city for?" Caroline wasn't quite sure how to respond, so she said simply, "It's not your business."

The woman tilted her head. Her redddish hair flopped to the side and her emerald green eyes sparkled. She was a healthy human, that was for sure. Caroline just glared. "Do you... live out here?" She asked, reaching into the bag to take her journal out and jot down some notes. "Yeah. Don't you?" She responded, trying to peer into the bag.

"No." Caroline said before putting the journal away and looking past the human at the cottage behind her. "Do you want to go inside?" She asked, looking behind her at the same cottage. "I've got bread baking."

Corbin ruffled his feathers, and Caroline shivered slightly. The two were cold, and she figured there was no rush to get anywhere. Besides, she wanted to see what kind of people lived out there. She nodded slowly and the woman turned towards the house. "Callista. By the way."

Caroline tilted her head, keeping pace with her. Callista turned to look at her and tilted her head back. "You?"

Caroline squinted, taking a moment to register, before it clicked. "Oh! Names! GLa-" she paused. "Caroline."

Callista nodded and went to open the door. "Well, come on in. Have a cup of tea. Catch some rest."
