Chapter 2

I stood with Zane as I watched my parents get reacquainted with each other. I turned to him.

"I'm really glad you came back," I said shyly.

 Zane smiled.

"I'm glad I came back too," he said with sincerity.

He pulled me in for another hug. I sneakily sniffed his shirt. Ahh the fresh scent of some kind of soap and the smell of his skin, something I've missed for a long time. We pulled away from the hug.

"I guess we should probably start unloading the boxes," he said jerking his thumb towards the moving van that was pulling in.

His uncle Pat was driving it. Pat owned a moving van company so I figured he'd be here. I nodded and followed him towards the van. My parents and Michelle walked over too. We all grabbed boxes and headed to the house. Once I walked into the familiar house, I remembered everything that had happened here. The food fight in the kitchen I'd had with Zane and Michelle. Me and Michelle had teamed up and pelted Zane with cookies while he squirted us with ketchup. I let out a soft chuckle and glanced around the house. I followed Zane into the soon to be living room and set my box down.

This went on for a couple hours. We also put all the boxes in the right rooms. I picked up the last box marked "Zane" and went up the stairs to his room. He was in there too.

"Here you go," I said handing him the box.

"Thanks for all the help," he said.

"No problem," I said gazing into his green eyes.

"So I'm goin to your house for dinner right?" he asked.

 "Yeah," I said.

 "Cool," he replied.

We stood there awkwardly for a couple minutes.

"So...I'll see you at dinner," I said trying to fill the silence.

 "Yup," he said.

"OK see you later," I said as I turned and walked out of the room.

I trudged down the stairs, not wanting to leave. I wish I could have spent a couple more minutes with Zane, but it was obviously awkward so I guess it was better that he left. And plus, he probably wanted to get settled in.

"Bye Michelle!" I said as I passed her in the living room.

"Bye sweetie, see you at dinner," she said as she unpacked some pillows for the couch.

I walked out of the house and headed to my own. I went up to my bedroom and took out my sketch pad. I sketched for about an hour. I looked at the clock and realized that Zane and Michelle would be here any minute for dinner. I quickly ran to the bathroom for a quick once over and hurried down the stairs. Seconds after I reached the bottom step, the Hudson's walked in.

"Hey Michelle! Hey Zane," my mom said coming out of the kitchen.

 "Hi!" she exclaimed.

Michelle followed my mom back into the kitchen while Zane walked towards me.

"Hey again," He said.

"Hey, dinner's gonna be in about half an hour...do you wanna go for a walk?" I asked.

 "Sure," he said.

"Great!" I said as I grabbed my light jacket and headed out the door.

 Zane followed behind.

"So school starts on Monday...what a bummer," I joked.

"Yeah, too bad we don't have any classes together since I'm a grade ahead of you," he said in a disappointed tone.

"Actually," I said. "We might be able to have a class together."

He looked at me curiously, as if to say "Go on."

"Well I'm in an advanced math class that's for juniors and advanced sophomores," I said.

"Well hopefully we are together in that class," he said hopefully.

It must be hard being the new kid I thought.

We continued walking, and I showed him around the neighborhood. Of course he remembered little bits of it. Like the park where we had often went to play. Soon it was time for us to turn back. We reached my house with a couple minutes to spare. My mom was just getting the chicken out of the oven. We sat down at the table and enjoyed a great meal. Just like when I was a kid I thought. I looked at Zane who was sitting across from me. He had just taken a huge bite of chicken and was having a little trouble chewing it. I giggled and smiled at him. He swallowed with a wince and his cheeks turned red. That made me laugh even more. Soon he started to chuckle too. After out little laughing fit I looked him straight in his gorgeous green eyes.

 "I missed you," I said.

"I missed you too Bri," he said sincerely.  And that's when I started to fall for my best friend.
