My brother, Zachary, and I rushed to his room down the hallway in the little house in California. The sun was setting, the bright mixtures of purple, red, orange, and yellow. Just as if an artist had taken the  sky as their own, personal, canvas ad painted the sky every morning and every night.

The yelling echoed through the little house as we skidded into his dark, small, confined closet. Shutting and locking ourselves in the spot we hid in every time the yelling sounded like two lions at war. Zach held me close to his chest, both of us huddled close together as we hear our parents fight like two unruly bears over the one shiny fish in a stream full of dull hidden ones. We cling together like two items of clothing as the fight, the constant low, deep cursing coming from my father and the yelling with a higher voice coming from my mother. She never uses profanity, especially when she knows children could potentially over hear.

My brother knew I hated fighting and yelling so he tried his best to block out the noise by humming, it didn't really help because I  just heard his heart race as he cried with me in his arms. I cried too, the hot thick droplets rushing down each side of my cubby, freckled, cheek as I hiccupped and shook from being frightened. My eyes changing from a deep blue, to grey with a dark, dark, blue circle around each colored iris.

We soon pass out from crying a whole ton. Hours later, after the war was over, my mother, Mary, woke us up and apologized for all the loud fighting. I don't really remember much after that, all I remember was getting tucked into my Tinkerbell toddler bed with my hair in a braid as I cuddled and snuggled tiredly to my brown teddy bear that was about the size of me.

"Goodnight Phoenix , my love" my mom's sweet voice cooed and echoed through the sunroom, which was my room, the beautiful outlook of the sky I had was amazing. All the stars and the bright moon, I am and always have been afraid of the dark but the moon shining brightly was my personal night light.

"Nigh Nigh mommy~" I lisped tiredly behind my blue pacifier. Soon I drifted off into the dreamland any 2 year old would have.
