They looked back toward the lift to the surface as it lowered back down, then they turned to their boss in complaint. "Actually, I changed my mind." GLaDOS said simply. "There are plenty of birds here in the facility. Go find one, and bring it back here." After a moment of silence among them, she nudged the bots with a panel. "Well? Go."

GLaDOS had been doing all she could to keep her little bird safe while she awaited the return of a mother for him. She was having a one sided conversation with him as she twirled around. "You need a name, my sweet. Maybe... Neurotoxin... No." She shook her head. "Perhaps... Wheatley? Oh, absolutely not." She sifted through some of the files on her computer, in search of ideas. "Caroline. No, that's my name." She went on arguing with herself. "What about Corbin? Derived from Old French, meaning 'Little Crow.'" She nodded, satisfied with herself, as the bird chirped weakly. "Corbin it is, then. Hello, Corbin. I'm going to make sure we nurse you back to health."

Orange poked her head back into the mainframe chamber with a little wave, announcing her presence. "Oh, it's you. You're back with a bird, I hope." Orange chuckled nervously and nodded, prancing into the room. From behind her, Blue stumbled in backwards, screaming, with his metal hand clasped around the leg of an angry crow. His metal casing was covered in dings and talon-marks. The bird was flapping and squawking wildly, trying to get away. GLaDOS winced, keeping her distance, before lifting a glass box up from below and encapsulating the bird.

"Great work. Now, if you'll go dig up some critters for her to eat, that should do it." The bots sighed, but turned to complete their task no-less. GLaDOS carried the box over to the incubator, where the fuzzy, black chick was resting. The bird eyed the little one, pecking at the glass of her cage. "I want you to take care of this one, you hear? Don't let him die." The bird simply pecked at the glass once more in response before hopping closer to the side of the box.

GLaDOS slowly opened the lid of the box, and watched in awe as the bird fluttered her way through the opening at the top of the warming vault, and was attentive to little Corbin. "Wow. That went well. Now that you two are acquainted, I'll see to it that you have all the food that you can eat." She hummed, covering the top of the vault so that the mother bird couldn't fly out. "I'm quite impressed that you're actually going to take care fo him. Honestly, I thought you were going to eat him. Oh well. It's good that he has some foster care now." She hummed to the birds as she waited for the bots to return.

Echo paced, her three legs clinking on the ground as she looked up at the new, artificial body. It was made in likeness to Caroline, whose body was still in the cryogenic freezing pod for examination. She compared the two bodies. Of course, the real Caroline looked softer, less robotic, less... Lab-made. The new prototype human wasn't entirely mechanical, and they had managed to get some of the essential parts of a human right by getting them from the thousands of other humans that were released, and promptly killed.

The new Caroline was only about fifty percent flesh and blood. There was some muscle, and a little bit of blood coursing through her veins, but she was pale, and looked almost like a corpse. There was a metal panel on the back of her neck, which would be opened, and GLaDOS's disc would be inserted. Her false hair that covered it looked fairly unhealthy, as did she as a whole, but despite her many imperfections, she was almost a fully realized human. The only difference was, her brain would be on a disc, and she had mechanical innards. Hopefully, that wouldn't be too much of a problem.

They did, however, manage to give her a real, beating heart. They had to go through a couple hundred hearts to get it right, but they had all the human bodies they would ever need, as morbid as it sounded. It was better that they at least put their late humans to good use.

Echo made sure to inspect the new Caroline closely before deciding that she would be a formidable new body for the boss. They would need to run a few tests to make sure that she was mobile, but as far as she could tell, that was the last step. Aside from, of course, replacing GLaDOS as the mainframe. Echo was not quite looking forward to that part in the plan.

Nevertheless, she clambered her way to the disassembly machine as she was ordered, and stared at it, before stepping closer. It reached out it's mechanical arms and dragged her in, to carefully take her apart and retrieve the chip that made her, well, Echo.

As the machine worked, she initiated sleep mode, as a defensive mechanism. She knew that when she awake, she would be in a whole new body; she couldn't say sje was excited, but she promised GLaDOS that she would help in any way she could. If this is what it takes, she thought, before all went dark.

This is probably a horrible way to end a chapter but akshdhajshshgdsb

So, here goes. Sorry if the Caroline thing sounds like plot convenience. I knew that I wanted GLaDOS to be able to experience being human again, but I wasn't quite sure how it would work. I guess this is how.
