It was a Saturday morning and I laid in bed, evidently tired from the day's activities, cleaning the entire house and tending to Alexis had been a herculean task, I felt pain in my entire spine and my legs were weak, tiredness was an understatement of what I felt, I needed to rest.

In the bedroom, from the bed where I laid, I could hear Alexis cries and her father's effort to hush her, he had sang lullabies, he had rocked her to and fro but no matter what her cries persisted, the noise was becoming unbearable and I pitied him, I smiled deeply.

Six years ago, Derek had finished youth service and I had married him, our wedding had been one of the most precious moments of my life,
I could still remember the day my mom walked me down the aisle, how Derek's eyes glittered with love as he stared at my face, the joy I had after we exchanged vows was indescribable, Tunmise had gifted me with a giant fridge.

Phoebe had flown from Dublin where she lived with her husband in order to attend, of course I had made sure I attended Phoebe's wedding, I would never miss it for anything in the world, the good thing was that it was held here at Abuja, months  later before her  husband got transferred to spearhead the bank where he worked at Dublin.

Emeka was present at the wedding too, he had accepted and respected my decision to marry Derek but the co-parenting agreement still stood, he had shook hands with Derek thus congratulating him,
the last news I heard about Dave was that he was in rehab, I sincerely wished him well.

I had written GCE, excelled in my JAMB exam and had been granted admission into the university to study Economics, I had graduated last year, well Derek didn't want me to work for anyone and so he had opened a boutique for me, he said with it, I could put my economic skills to use, I had laughed at this.

Six months ago, I had given birth to Alexis, she was her father's carbon copy, she had thick brows and her fair skin glowed like her father's, however, she was a crybaby,
She never left me or her dad rest, we were always on forced night shifts due to her disturbances.

Her cries persisted and became louder, I heard approaching footsteps from the sitting room into the bedroom where I stayed, I didn't need a prophet to tell me it was Derek coming with her, I knew he wanted to hand her over to me, well, I didn't want that, I needed to rest badly and so I shut my eyes tightly whilst praying silently he thinks I'm asleep.

"Wifey," his voice called out sweetly, that was the name he called me, truth be told, the way he said it sent some sense of sweetness to me, I heard his footsteps draw closer to the bed.

"Wifey" he called again, probably glancing at my lying form, I shut my eyes tighter, hoping he'd go away.

"I know you're awake, just get up already" he cooed and a smile threatened to spoil my pretentious sleepy look but i resisted it.

Suddenly I felt a slight pinch on my elbow, I quickly opened my eyes and glared at Derek and he laughed boisterously, I nudged his arm and he laughed more, Alexis cries heightened to gear five.

"Arrgh, why did you pinch me na?" I feigned annoyance as I massaged the area of the pinch, even though it was painless.

"I'm sorry wifey" he apologized and then pecked the exact point he had pinched me, I smiled and sat up.

"Alexis needs her mommy" he spoke bringing her closer to me, I creased my eyebrows in a slight frown.

"Biko, I'm tired abeg, help me na" I pouted at him and he smiled.

"Since when did you start speaking igbo?" He asked and looked down at Alexis, her cries increased.

"I have an appointment now at the hospital and I have to go, I promise to make up for this." he continued and slowly handed her to me.
