Naomi Jackson
The smell of cleaning supplies hit my nose as I walked into the hospital. It was quite busy although it was 1 o'clock in the morning. There were about 15 patients sitting in the primary care waiting room, most were irritated by the long wait time others talking amongst each other, while most were falling asleep. I scrolled through the doors and into my office. At 22 I felt that my life was almost complete, I do not long for a companion, nor do I wish for a family. I wish to become a surgeon and continue helping people, becoming a nurse was just one step towards my dream.
I was not born into wealth, my family were middle class working people. My parents did as much for me as they could. I was raised an only child, which was quite boring. I've always begged my parents for a sibling, but now as a 22 year old woman siblings are the least of my worries. I want to enjoy my life and what remains of it.
Sitting at my desk while lost in thought, the new CNA, Summer ran into my office tripping over her words.
"Summer slow down, take a deep breath and tell me what's wrong" I said grabbing her shoulder.
" There's a man in room 202, and he's coding, we changed pagers early today, hurry please!" Summer rushed me out of my office.
Running through the hospital, most people moved out of my way.
I walk into the hospital room which was a mass chaos. Justin, who is also a head nurse, was giving out directions and assigning jobs. "Ah, Naomi nice of you to join us." Justin snarled, while putting a mask over the patients face. Although it isn't a race, since I didn't make it to the room first I had to follow Justin's orders.
After successfully resuscitating the patient Dr. Rowan came to check the progress.
"Thanks for your help Naomi" Justin rolled his eyes.
"Your welcome, and I would have been here faster but no one told me that the pagers were changed." I snapped, more upset at myself than anyone else.
"Please, you're just mad that you had to follow someone else's rules beside your owns" Justin. crossed his arms.
"Justin please shut up this is not a competition, we're here to save lives and that's all." Summer injected herself into our argument, which I was very grateful for because Justin then stormed off.
"Thank you." I offered her a small smile, before turning to do my rounds.
"Hey, um Naomi, would you like to eat lunch with me later?" Summer nervously asked.
"Of course I would." I sent a cheerful smile her way.
I am not very popular around the hospital most of the girls think that I am stuck up, while most of the guys have only one thing in mind.
