"Why do you care about whether or not I'm a vampire?" I asked, confused. He didn't seem to care about anyone but himself.

He breathed in deeply, smirked, and moved my hair away from my neck. "Your blood," he leaned into my ear and whispered, "is the best I've ever tasted." His words sent shivers down my spine and I swallowed hard.

"So... you're only making sure I stay human so that I can be your own personal juice box." My words came out barely above a whisper. My stomach turned into knots, and I couldn't help but feel like this night had changed my life forever. "What makes you think I'd ever want to be around you again after tonight?"

He didn't hesitate to place a gentle, lingering kiss on my lips. I didn't make any move to stop him or move away, and instead reciprocated the kiss. He pulled away after a few seconds and smiled. "That does." Damn him.

I didn't want to try to argue back because I knew that I'd probably lose. Instead, I remembered my friends actually existed for a moment, and knew Ethan must have been wondering where I was. "I need to go to my friend's house."

"Great, I'll go with you."

I furrowed my eyebrows and shook my head. "What? No."

Jesse took a small step back, smirked, and crossed his arms over his chest. "Why not, princess?" Sarcasm was clearly evident in his voice.

"I'd just... like to be alone." I was mentally exhausted from this entire situation. I was having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that what just happened did indeed happen and that vampires were real. Not to mention, the guy that I liked happened to be one, and it now seemed that he no longer considered me someone he wouldn't give the time of day.

He straightened his posture, and I swore he had a pained expression for just a moment before it became serious. "I need to make for sure that you won't die, don't I?" He looked down into my eyes, deeply, as if he was searching for something in them.

Before I could respond to him and tell him I wasn't a helpless damsel, my phone went off in my pocket. I reached behind me to grab it out of my jeans and saw that Ethan had texted me, and quickly unlocked my phone to read it.

Hurry over ASAP. Sarah is babysitting tonight instead of Erica!!!! HELP

"You threw Sarah all the way to Ethan's house?" I sighed and looked up at Jesse. He shrugged.

"I just threw her. I have no idea where that dork lives." He laughed. "Why don't you come hang out with my friends and I?" Jesse smirked and tried to pull me along with him toward his car that was parked in the street ahead, and I glanced between him and my phone for a moment with an anxious feeling in my chest.

Based on previous events, I felt that I had to say yes. Not necessarily because I wanted to, but because Jesse scared me. I didn't want what happened to Sarah to happen to me, and it was obvious the fact that I was human would not stop him from treating me like her. He had little to no care for human lives.

I gulped and nodded. "Uh... yeah, just let me text Ethan back."

I looked at the house in front of me with awe. "This is your house?" It looked like a mansion, it was beautiful and rustic. It was my dream home.

Jesse smiled and nodded. He pulled up to the gate and rolled down his window, saying "O-Positive" into the speaker. I rolled my eyes at the irony as the gates opened and he drove through.
