He grinned shyly, "Yeah, I'm so sorry. I thought the hallway was empty so, like an idiot, I continued to walk while I read my schedule," I watched him fidget with his hands, a classic anxiety tick that I was all too familiar with.
"That was kind of dumb," I said suggestively as I watched fear flash across his face. Finally I smiled at him and I saw him relax slightly.
"I know and I am so so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I never should have been," I held up a finger to silence him. Confusion splashed his features momentarily as he waited for what I said next.
"Hey softie, don't sweat it. Besides, scars are wicked," I faked a hard-ass tone and he looked very surprised.
I chuckled to myself for a moment, "Did I get you? I think I got you there huh?"
He studied me for a second, probably trying to decide if I was crazy or not. I just stared at him with a bored expression. His expression softened a little and he laughed with me.
"You did, you really had me worried there for a second. I never caught your name,"
"You didn't really catch anything actually, considering I'm sitting in the nurse's office with a headache from hell," I shrugged and panic crossed his face.
"Hey I'm kidding. My name is Everly," I held out my hand. He hesitated for a minute before finally taking it.
"It's nice to meet you Everly. So, I uh gathered up your papers and stuff after you fell. You like music,"
All of my confidence slipped out from underneath of me in that moment. I had never really talked about my love of music before. To my friends, it was rather obvious so no one ever asked me. I was taken aback by his question and suddenly I became extremely shy. Surely I had turned into a tomato. Before I had a chance to respond, the nurse appeared in the doorway with a bored expression on her face.
"Everly you're awake. Your brother is here to pick you up, I don't think you have a concussion but you should get checked anyways to be sure," She planted her hands on her hips before turning to the mystery guy and glaring at him.
"She's awake now so you should head to class. Her brother can take it from here," She said sternly, crossing her arms across her chest.
He coughed a little and stood up slowly. I stayed quiet as he walked towards the door until I realized that I had never gotten his name.
"Hey wait! I never got your name!"
I felt my heart flutter a little bit as I heard footsteps coming back down the hallways but my excitement ended as soon as Blake walked in. His face was filled with worry as he rushed in past the nurse and knelt down in front of me. I could hear him talking to me and asking me questions but I couldn't focus on what he was saying. My mind kept wandering to the other guy.
"Everly?" Blake tapped my shoulder and I finally directed my attention towards him. All my other thoughts fled and I was suddenly aware of my throbbing headache again. My brother's eyes were focused on me as I gazed up him but said nothing.
"Blake, hey. I'm fine, I'm fine. Just a little headache," I finally said, causing him to breathe a sigh of relief. I took another deep breath.
"Well I'm glad to hear it, how about we go home and watch movies? I bet it's more than just a little headache," He smirked at me.
I smiled at him sheepishly and rubbed my temple, "Okay, so maybe it is more than a little headache," He shook his head and laughed at me.
My mind continued to wander all the way home. I was kind of sad that I didn't get his name. There were thousands of students in my school, what are the odds we even cross paths again? I sighed sadly, pressing my cheek against the cold glass window. Blake noticed it to.
"What's wrong? Is it your head?"
I sighed and looked at him, "The guy that ran into me, I never got his name and I really wanted to thank him for taking me to the nurse."
"Thank him? He's the reason you had to go in the first place, I would be furious if I were you. In fact I kind of am furious,"
I rolled my eyes at him, "Blake, it was an accident, don't make a big deal about it. He could have left me there you know, but he didn't. He picked up my stuff and took me to the nurse I guess. I just wanted to say thank you,"
"Maybe you will, he might find you in school on Monday," Blake shrugged and I huffed angrily.
"Yeah right, he ran into me so what? Twenty bucks says he forgets about the whole thing and I never see him again,"
