They both stared at me like a deer in headlights before Sam cracked a smile. Mercy followed with a sheepish grin.
"Still, I'm really sorry I ruined your clothes. It's been a hell of a day," She tugged at her curly ends, coffee dripping onto the floor as she continued to wring them out, "I'll make it up to you, you like spas?"
I smiled, "Of course, who doesn't,"
"Then consider our first spa day on me, Sam you in?" She asked, dipping her head into the sink to rinse the sticky mess from her face and hair.
Sam leaned against the wall, watching us for a minute, "You know me Mercy, I'm always in."
"You two friends?" I asked, reaching for my phone. Emmy always had spare clothes in her car.
"Have been since we were babies," Mercy spoked as she tried to tear a brush through her ratted hair.
I raised an eyebrow and Sam nodded in response, "Well I guess that means you have an advantage over me. Think you have room for one more?"
Sam and Mercy shared a brief look before looking back to me, "Well you know, I did spill coffee on you so I guess that means we'll have to be friends now,"
"Yeah," I smiled at them, "I guess it does."
My phone dinged. Emmy was headed our way with more clothes and a hairdryer. I heard Mercy huff angrily as she held her clothes underneath the hand dryer. I fought hard to hold back my laughter.
"Don't worry about it Mercy, your clothes will reek of coffee all day if you try to put them back on. You're about my size and my older sister happens to be obsessed with appearance. She's headed our way with clean clothes and a hairdryer,"
I saw her face light up as she rushed over and crushed me in a bear hug, "I dump coffee on you, you don't get mad and you offer me clean clothes. Friends won't even cover it,"
"What the hell happened in here?" Emmy's voice cut through the bathroom, startling all three of us.
I laughed just thinking about it. Somehow, I went from angry to happy in a matter of seconds and I made two new friends. Things had changed so much since I had moved here. I learned that Mercy and Sam were actually a lot different compared to how I met them that day. Sam was actually the shy one and I mean uber shy. Always cowering into herself around everyone but us. Mercy was the firecracker with the attitude. I loved them.
"Laughing to yourself huh? Sam, I think our girl has gone crazy," Mercy slid against the lockers beside me and Sam just laughed.
"Actually, I wasn't," I crossed my arms and smiled at her, "I was thinking about how we met."
I watched her face drop as she mentally cringed at the thought. Sam continued her obnoxious laughter beside us as Mercy's face caught fire. It was my favorite memory of us.
"Ugh why were you thinking about that? That was probably the most embarrassing time in my life. Big bad Mercy terrified that the new girl was about to claw her eyes out,"
"Nah, I wasn't that bad back then. You know Mercy, after everything that happened," I stopped myself and suddenly the silence between us became awkward. They both knew how much I hated talking about what happened but sometimes it just slipped.
"We know what you mean, you don't have to say anything," Sam rested her hand on my shoulder and I took a deep breath. It was gonna be alright.
"So," Mercy cleared her throat, "Any plans for tonight?"
