Patrick

This is it. The first day of senior year. My mom thought it would be a bright idea to switch me from my old public high school, Glenbrook Central High, to this new, fancy froo froo private "academy" as its called, to stop me from getting picked on. I had about 2 and a half friends there, who ended up exposing me and pretending to actually care about me, just for shits and giggles. I don't think I can really trust anyone after that, except my parents I guess. I don't believe the bullying will ever stop because eventually I'll get outed one day by a fake friend, and the cycle will repeat again. I look at the uniform that my mom made me lay out the night before, and for once im glad because I won't have to waste valuable time to try and pick out something that makes me look less gross. The uniform is simple, a black short-sleeved polo, paired with a red cardigan and a pair of black khakis. I'm actually kind of vibing with it to be honest. I put on the outfit and look in the mirror. I didn't look any better, but it will have to do for now. I ruffled my hair, put on my fedora, and went downstairs to go to the car.

----
Slowly but surely, our station wagon made its way up the hill and pulled up to the front of the school. Literally everyone here drove themselves, and I look pretty stupid still getting rides from my mom. I quickly grabbed my bag and open the car door.

"Bye mom, love you, see you later-"

"Wait, Patrick." she stops me. I already know what she's going to say.

"First of all, I love you too, and I even though I tell you this every year, just stay strong, ok? I know how people are. Trust me, I've been there. But I believe in you, and you will have some real friends that I will be glad to embarass you in front of." she laughed to herself and continued. " Now go have a good day, ok?"

"Yea, ok, I'll try. Can I go now?' I said. She gestured for me to leave. I shut the car door and made my way to the front door of the school. I look at my schedule. Oh cool, I have 2nd lunch. I wonder what the food is like he-

BAM!

All of a sudden I'm on the ground, and I hear Snickers and chuckles. Great, already an embarrassment the first day here.

"Watch it, loser." some guy says, then he rides off on his skateboard. The only thing I saw of him was his black, emo haircut. Another dude with curly brown hair calls after him and says, "Maybe you shouldn't be on a skateboard on campus Pete!" He looks down at me, and offers his hand. I grab it and pull myself up.

"Uh, thanks." I say quietly.

"Yea, no prob dude!  You must be Patrick, Right?" I nod slowly. "Oh cool, I'm Joe, welcome to our school." He gives me this big friendly smile and holds out his hand again, and I awkwardly shake it.

"Yea.. how'd you know m-my name?" I ask quietly.

"Oh yea, I'm assigned to welcome new students and show them around. Can I see if we have any classes together by chance?"  I nod. He looks at the sheet of paper with furrowed brows, then they relax when he sees something. "Hey, looks like we have 2nd and 7th period, and 2nd lunch together. That's epic. Cmon, I'll show you around the school before class."

-
Joe and I enter the classroom, which is English, just as the bell rings. We sit down in the empty spots which are next to each other. This Joe guy has been really nice to me so far, and it seems like he wants to be friends with me, so that's a first. The teacher enters the room, with a cup of coffee and looks like he's gonna die. He's got long hair with a snapback, and wearing white dress shirt. Who told him that was a good combo? He tries to put a welcoming smile on his face.
