This all started with a girl waking from a deep sleep.
A really, really deep sleep.
The kind of sleep that's so deep, when you wake up you don't know who you are.
Or what ice cream is.
The girl rubbed her head through a mess of super curly hair.
Then she rubbed her eyes, cause they didn't seem to want to open on their own.
When they did open, she didn't recognize the room she was in.
Or the girl sleeping on her arm.
She lifted her free hand to look at herself.
Her skin was brown like coffee, with a lot of very dark freckles.
She turned and looked at the other girl's face again. It was creamy, like... frozen... milk?
What was that called again?
The girl couldn't remember.
Eyes... I scream...
There seemed to be a memory there that wasn't actually there.
Which is even more confusing than it sounds.
The coffee-colored girl looked down at her body.
She only had a purple tee on, with some weird shapes on it that she knew were letters, and yet... that didn't stop them from being weird shapes.
Suddenly the girl on her arm moved a little.
She yawned, real big. Bigger than a girl her size should've been able. Like a lion.
Then she opened her eyes.
"Good morning, gorgeous!"
Coffee girl stared at this girl's face.
She knew this was when she should respond.
But...
How do you even do that?
"I'm Keera. Are you okay? Does anything hurt?"
Coffee girl understood her words, and she felt a kind of warmth knowing the little creature was concerned.
But that didn't help her figure out what to say back.
"Can you... talk?"
Coffee blinked.
Keera blinked back, curiosity beaming from her eyes.
"I know you're probably just gonna stare at me, but I have to ask..."
Keera bit her thumb and snuggled a little closer to the girl's body.
"Are you like, an angel?"
Coffee just stared at Keera. And things were quiet for a minute. As they looked at each other. Real awkward like.
"Whoa," Keera finally said.
"Your eyes are really pretty."
Keera pulled the stumbling girl downstairs by her hand, excited to introduce her to her family.
"Everyone, this is my new friend! I'm not sure what her name is yet..."
Coffee looked around the room.
Apparently Keera's family was a big fuzzy dog, a big fuzzy teddy bear, a life-size cut out of a very pretty boy, and two carrots with googly eyes wrapped together in a rubber band.
