Chapter I: Life's Bliss

Walking out of the wedding planner's office Thursday night was quite surreal. It was actually sinking in, I was a week away from getting married. After so many years waiting and so many months planning, it was finally here and it felt like a daze. It was all now coming true, my dream wedding happening just like I imagined it would be. The only part that was added much later was the ideal man.

As I rode a cab back to our apartment, so many memories buzzed through my mind. My memory wandered to the day I met Adam.

It was almost like it came out of a hopeless romantic movie. It was raining cats and dogs, the sunny Floridian weather being completely bipolar that day. Out of the blue, the rain became very heavy and as I walked out of my new job interview, the rain struck me by surprise. I was soaking wet within seconds.

"Crap." I muttered to myself.

My cheery mood instantly went sour, but lucky for me, a man out of nowhere came to my side and put an umbrella over my head.

His sudden appearance made me smile at him briefly. He shot me a quick glance before we walked over to a more covered area. As we stood there awkwardly, out of the corner of my eye, I examined him.

A tall, muscular frame was evident under his blue-long sleeved shirt and his charcoal slacks. His honey-brown hair was a tad messy due to the weather and his hazel eyes were almost brown. He finally caught me looking at him and gave me a warm grin. I felt stupid to have him catch me gawking at his breathtaking physique. I probably looked like a wet mess due to the rain.

"So what's your name?" His steady gaze on me didn't match up with his low voice. I eyed him carefully as he closed the umbrella once we had a bigger roof over our heads. His intent gaze was firm towards me, hardly even scanning my face.

Not being able to escape his piercing glare, I caved and blushed fiercely but I managed to act as if nothing happened. "I'm Elline." My voice was raspy and I ducked my head, suddenly embarrassed.

"So, it sounds like Colleen?" He raised an eyebrow, now amused most likely of my distress.

"Yes, just like Colleen." I let out a giggle. "What about you?" My head tilted upward to meet his hazel eyes, now soft yet intrigued.

"I'm Adam. Adam Keller." He flashed me a full smile this time.

"Pleasure to meet you, Adam." I paused to compose myself a bit better. "Thanks for saving me from the nasty weather." The rain was now slowing to a soft drizzle, enough for me to get a cab back home.

"The pleasure was mine. I was happy to help." He paused. For a moment I thought he was going to say goodbye. But he shifted on his feet and took in a deep breath.

"Where are you headed?" He looked at the rain, just like I was.

Taken aback from the sudden question, I stammered at first. "I'm um, headed back to my apartment. I think I'll go now since it's not raining so hard anymore. Thanks again." I turned to leave but he gently caught me by my wrist.

Once he had realized what he had done, his face looked like he had regretted it. His eyes went wide for a moment and his face slowly flushed red.

"I was just wondering if you'd let me take you to dinner sometime. I did you a favor, saving you from the rain today. The least you can do is return the favor for me. Please?" His grip slowly slipped off of my wrist.

I paused for a moment, perplexed at the proposal. Thinking to myself, a million questions raced through my head. But there was a question that had me in a mental mess inside, Was he really asking me on a date?
