The rain pounded against the window of the car. My eyes were barely open and my breath was faint. I could taste a strong metallic liquid in my mouth. What just happened? Why couldn't I open my eyes more? What was that smell?

*10 minutes before crash*

"Hector we can't take this road! The police already blocked off the country roads from the storm. It could be flooded!" My mother was always so concerned with so much. She feared the small things and typically stayed indoors. The only time she left the house was to collect mail. I couldn't discuss certain topics to her considering she would freak. Last time I mentioned that my leg was broke, she passed out from a panic attack. Luckily dad was home to take me to the hospital.

"Ash I promise you, the road is fine. I came down it just beforehand to check. Just sit back and close your eyes. We'll be home before you know it." My dad was the complete opposite and that's what I loved most.

I looked out the window sensing the rain picking up outside. The road was covered in an inch of water and I knew that if my mother saw she'd flip. Instead I took out his cell phone, seeing the battery low symbol show up. "Not again...I just charged you." I really did need a new phone. I opened up Pandora and put my headphones in. The soft melody playing in my ears. I must've closed my eyes for a second before a sudden jerk awoke me. The car swerved and hit a tree along the road. My grip tightened on the seat in front of me as the car trailed down the cliff. The car flipped a few times before landing in front of some trees.

*Time of Crash*

I couldn't move my body. I couldn't see much from the blurriness I encountered. All that I could do was lie there and wait. Wait for what exactly? Death? possibility. Or someone to help, which was a 50/50 chance.

It seemed like nobody was coming to help them but I could faintly hear the sound of sirens. I could see the silhouettes of people approaching the car. Each one moving around the car in slow motion.

"Lift the car!" One of the police officers instructed the tow truck to lift the broken down car. It wasn't long before my body was also lifted up with it. Without realizing it, my leg was caught between the door and seat.

"Wait!! There is someone here!" Hands were touching me, but it wouldn't feel the pain. Couldn't scream for help. Just watched the shadows surround me with their arms. I noticed the change of light as all I could see was white. The sounds of machines beeping.

"Hold on son, we got you. Just stay with us." The voice was so sweet and nurturing. Like when mother's would sing to babies to calm them down.

My eyes finally closed shut.

The next three hours were critical. The doctors performed surgery on my leg and stomach. I had major bruising on my chest and neck from the seatbelt. Cuts scattered on his face from the glass that shattered due to the windows. I had wrapping along my arms, legs and stomach. I was pretty much a mummy from Egypt. Of course they did what they could to make me stay comfortable. A nurse stationed outside my room at all times. They would come into the room every hour to check vitals and draw blood. I could hear them speaking softly but for some reason my eyes wouldn't open.

"How is he?" One of the nurses asked.

"Still in a coma. His brain signals are good, just waiting for him to wake up. If he doesn't eat soon he will get sick. Doctor said to put a tube in. But I'd hate to see him suffer more with that." The main nurse and his therapist spoke to the other.

*1 week later*

I stirred in my sleep, slowly opening my eyes one by one. The light above me was  piercing my pupils like lasers. Why was everything so bright? The movement signaled the doctor and nurse causing a frenzy to appear in my room. "Adrian!"

"shh, don't scream at him. Let his eyes adjust." The doctor spoke.

"Are you okay son? Do you remember anything?"

I was able to open my eyes just enough to see the doctors and nurses surrounding the bed as if I was a dead body in a funeral home. Each one had a relief in their tone of voice. These strangers looking like that took twenty five hour drinks to make it through the day. The doctor was dressed in a night suit and sweater. His face was unwashed and scruffy. The nurse on the other hand was well dressed and wearing the most smelling old lady perfume ever.

"I'm...o..okay." Great I'm stuttering and sound like I smoked a pack of cigs. "What..happened?"

"You were in a car accident. You and your family were immediately brought here.  Sadly..the only one to survive was you. We tried to save your parents, but the damaged was to greatly done. Your mother suffered serious head trauma that left her brain dead. Your father had lost too much blood."

"What about Lilly?!"

"I'm sorry we didn't find her in the crash initially but a day ago, her body was found dismembered in the lake. We assumed she didn't have a seatbelt on and was launched through the windshield. You were lucky that you all didn't drown. If the car went through the trees...nobody would've found you."

I was the only one? But I can't be..they have to be alive. This is a joke right? I'm dreaming. Yeah I'm dreaming and when I wake up they will be there. "That's funny doc, but they are alive. I'm just dreaming."

Their faces changed from a worry to concern and doubt. This was normal and they knew that reality will hit soon.

"Adrian. I don't think..nevermind."

I gave a smirk as if I won but it soon faded. I closed my eyes and opened seeing the same feature. Over and over again I tried. Tried to escape reality.

"N..no.."
