"If you have a question, please raise your hand," He spoke sternly yet jokingly at the same time.
I sighed but raised my hand anyway.
He finally decided to acknowledged me by standing before my figure that sat on the bed, an amused smile on his lips.
"Yes?" He drawled in a teasing manner.
I fought the urge to roll my eyes at his bi-polar attitude and decided to just repeat my previous question.
"Why is it 'illegal' to see the future or your death?"
He plopped down beside me and then replied, "Well, it isn't illegal per se. It's just, you know how the codex is for travelling back in time to fix whatever mistake you make?"
I nodded my head 'yes'.
"Well, there's an object that helps you travel into the future and that's the text."
I furrowed my brows and shook my head in disbelief. "These names or so lame."
He threw me an offended glare. "Hey, they didn't really have much time back then to think of some crazy name like the tardis or the WABAC."
"What do you mean?" I asked, leaning in closer in curiosity.
He shrugged. "Well, from what my predecessor told me, the people who had this book before anyone else were—in her words—in deep shit. This one guy owed this other guy some money and because he couldn't pay his due someone else had to pay it for him, which resulted in the death of his mother. He made this crazy deal with some shady people and then made the 'codex' to go back in time and save his mother and then made the 'text' to see if it would work—also, part of the deal was that he had to make the two books in the span of two years and then give it to them not a minute late, or else his hard work would be taken from him without a reward. So he saved his mother, realized the people he made a deal with were horrible, went back in time to stop himself from making the deal, realized he still had the two books and his mother—which he thought was legit, by the way—, and then proceeded to hide for the rest of his life, in fear and paranoia."
"Wait, but this is completely different from the story you told me in the forest," I complained, staring at him with confusion in my eyes. "Also, I didn't understand anything you said."
He ignored the latter and shrugged his shoulders, which I noticed he did a lot, and then replied, "Well, I lied."
I sighed but decided to just let it go. "How was the book passed down?"
"What do you mean?"
"Like, to who and why did he pass it down?"
He stared up in my ceiling, deep in thought. "I don't think it's time for that yet. Let's just focus on me explaining what the codex does."
I pursed my lips. I still had a thought on my mind that has yet to be answered.
"What's your name?" I bluntly asked.
He turned to look at me, a solemn look in his eyes. He was staring at me, observing my movements and probably wondering why I seemed to be shaking for just that simple question.
A moment of silence passed between us before he finally replied.
"I told you already," He answered with a chuckle, as if I just asked him a simple question. Which it was, but at the same time it felt more than just that.
I shook my head 'no'. "You didn't. I'd remember if you did."
He turned his body to face me fully, a look of confusion etched on his face. He sat cross-legged, silently staring me down.
