My feet moved backwards and if they were moving forward, I could not tell. I was being brought back as if a rope was tied around my waist and I was being forced to watch scenes of my life.

And then it all stopped.

And there I was, the day my mom was gonna leave for Texas.

Except this time I was just waking up.

The man from before was nowhere to be seem, after all, I was in my bedroom now and not in Aunt Alena's house.

"What the hell is going on?" I said aloud as I slowly got off my bed. I looked around in confusion and clutched one of my hands against my heart in fear.

My room was like it always was, except the picture of my ex-bestfriend was still on my nightstand which reminded me that she was gonna reveal to me her 'betrayal' today. I sighed a shook my head.

'I have to re-live this hell.'

I looked down at my clothes and noticed that I was in my pajamas, which wasn't unusual. But what caught me off guard was that everything was on point from that day. Though my memory isn't enough to get me into law school I can still remember that I had accidentally walked into my room with muddy boots the previous night, resulting in the brown footprints that were now etched into the rug. And when I lifted my head I also saw that my textbooks were still spread around my desk, indicating that I wasn't able to finish my essay because of other things.

"Woah," I breathed out while touching everything as if it were my first time. "This is so vivid."

"I agree."

I jumped in surprise at the voice that resounded behind me.

I quickly spun around and met eyes with familiar heterochromatic ones. This time he was dressed in denim pants and a black long-sleeved shirt that looked as if he had thrown them on carelessly. Still, it was more welcomed than that terrifying police uniform or that childish attire. It actually suited him more naturally.

"So, what's with the footprints on the floor?"

Despite my embarrassment to reply, I did so anyway.

"I had to drag my mom home from my Aunt's house, but it was raining last night so it led to this mess you see right now."

He nodded, not needing any further explanation. "Well, since that future debacle is over with, let me get to the explanation."

I pursed my lips at his statement, finally coming to an actual realization of how bizarre and other-wordly my situation truly is. It's barely been a day since what happened yet here I was, anxiety and all, still standing. In all honesty, I didn't even know why I wasn't freaking out. Knowing myself, I would've dropped to the floor and had panic attacks, but for some odd reason, that wasn't the case.

Because here I was, sitting on my bed, listening to a random stranger explain a concept I could not fully grasp but accepted completely without so much as a fight.

"The codex is like a time machine, except you can only go back in time. Reason for this—because it's illegal to see 'what happens next' or your impending doom, also known as death," He lectured, as if he had done this many times before.

I tilted my head and quirked one brow.

"Why is that?" I questioned, a small frown on my face.

He rolled his eyes and then stood up from the stool he was sitting on at my desk. He then proceeded to leisurely cruise around my room, stopping to examine the top of my drawers or anything that caught his eyes. It didn't seem like he was looking for something, it was more like him just being fascinated without showing it on his face.
