The lean girl tossed and turned in the rattan hammock, muscles tensing like a fawn as one of her legs got stuck in a rather large gap in the woven fabric.

I couldn't breathe. It felt soothing, it felt like home.Yet . Yet I was terrified. For it was unfamiliar, yet weirdly comforting at the same time. Like I belonged...

"Sofia Che! Time for school! You're late! No time for breakfast. Run!!!" I sprung out of bed. All memory of the dream was wiped from my mind. 

Yet another deep sleep without dreams! I whistled to myself. I quickly changed into the scruffy uniform at the end of my bed. Went to the stream to splash water on my face and mouth.

"Go!" Smirked as my she smacked my hand which snatched a piece of naan on the table.

"Sayang, my dear Ibu (mother). I'll get going then!" With a hop in my step, I swung my bag over my shoulder. Gulped in huge breaths of morning air as I sprinted along the dirt path, fresh soil coming between my toes, shoes dangling from my neck.

It was the best time of day, and I felt alive.
