He took the elevator to the first floor. The building that was always busy during the day was now empty.

          His building.

          His company.

He had bought it from the bank when it went bankrupt six years ago. Everyone had thought it was a futile attempt to restore the company but here it is, a multibillionaire company, better and more successful than his predecessor. It was even now a merger of two companies.

The company was his pride and it was everything to him. He had worked his ass up and spent every single saving he had to make it work and become what it is today.

He walked out of the building into the still night.

His car was already parked in front of the building with his driver waiting for him and he seemed pleased. He opened the door and entered the back seat of the car.

"Good evening Mr. Demilade." The driver greeted as he stepped into the car.

"Evening." He said in his usual flat tone.

The drive home was quiet. And he tried to finish his work on his iPad.

"We are here sir." The driver said. He looked up from his phone and sighed. He took his phone from the seat and he came down from the car. He muttered 'goodnight' to the driver.

His mother was waiting for him on the balcony. She stood with a broad smile plastered on her small cute face. She doesn't look her age a bit. She was fifty but looks like she is in her mid-thirties. Maybe it was because of her small stature and small face.

"Mom." He said as she pulled him into a tight hug.

"Welcome son. How was work today ?" She asked looking at him intently.

"It was fine. Sorry for keeping you waiting. I forgot you will be coming today." He apologized.

"It's okay." She smiles. "let go in. You look exhausted." And she pulled him gently into the house.

He went to his room to take a shower and change out of his cloth. Later on, he came down to meet her in the dining. He wore strip color sweat pants and a white polo.

Food was already set on the table. He knew his mother had done it herself. She won't let his house help do her job. But he was definitely okay with it. And he took a seat opposite her. She said a short prayer and they began to eat.

"Mom, you don't have to wait for me." He said putting a spoonful in his mouth. He realized that he was very hungry and he had missed his mother's cooking.

"You know I will always wait for you." Mrs. Jolaoluwa replied with a motherly smile on her face.

He smiled back at her. She was right. As long as she was in his house, she always waited for him to come home before she eat, except for lunch. So there was no point arguing with her or convincing her otherwise.

There was silence as they ate quietly. Demilade noticed his mother looking his way a couple of times, then she cleared her throat.

"Uhm." She cleared her throat. He rolled his eyes. He knew she does that when she was about to say something serious.

"What is it, Mom?" He asked still eating. His mother, Mrs. Jolaoluwa was already done eating her food.

Demilade was generally slow at eating. He has always been slow at eating since he was young. So the woman was used to it.

"Demilade." She started.

This must be really serious. Demilade thought. She usually calls him Ade on a normal day and Demilade when she has something very very serious to say or when she was furious at him.

He looked up at her and nodded. He knew he didn't have to say anything.

"You will be thirty very soon, don't you think it's time you get married?" She asked.

"Mom not again." He said trying not to get angry. That was not the first time she was talking about marriage with him and it always make him angry when she does.

"My age doesn't matter. I can get married anytime I want. But not now, I'm not ready for marriage." He disagreed with her.

"Why not? You are successful! You have several companies, a house, and cars. Everything you ever need. What else do you want to achieve? Don't you think you deserve to be happy?" She asked bitterly.

He looked up at her and answered her flatly. "I'm a happy mom. And I have you."

"But you can't marry me. You have to find someone who will be there for you. To always care and support you. I won't be with you forever. You know that." She huffed. "You need a woman in your life. You are not a kid anymore. I am not getting younger. You are my only child. I want to have grandchildren. I want to see your kids. I want to see you happy with a wife. Is this house not too boring for you? You don't even have a girlfriend."

"I have a girlfriend." He lied.

"No, you don't." She said firmly. He raised a brow at her. "You've never talked about any girl. I never heard you talking to females on the phone ...except your clients."

"I do have a girlfriend Mom." He said adamantly.

She didn't believe him. He realized she knew him better than he imagine.

"She is a busy one mom and it's a long-distance relationship. Don't worry, you will meet her soon. But as for marriage, I'm not ready for that." He added.

She exhaled sharply. There was no need to argue with him. He was very stubborn-headed like his father and grandmother. She thought. He won't change his mind. No one can, even herself. The only thing she could do was to keep reminding him, continuously.
