The wind blew at her hair, a gentle caress from the frosted air. Her breath turned to mist every time she exhaled, as clouded as her memory. As her mouth quivered, frostbitten and chapped, hand clutched at her side, she took another shuffled step toward the north. At least that's where she thought she was going. Where she hoped she was going.

She didn't have much longer, she could feel it. She could feel the life slowly draining out of her as the warm, sticky liquid continued to seep from her side. She could feel it escaping her as the wind sucked the warmth out of her freezing body, so as the pain and the cold began to consume her, she pushed on.

Two hundred metres she told herself. Just two hundred more metres.

Her steps began to falter. They began to slow to a standstill. Until she collapsed, a frostbitten hand reaching out in front of her.

It was barely ten metres now. She could hear it. She could see it. The black pavement that stretched on for miles. The hundreds of cars that drove along it moving from point A to point B. She could see it, but she couldn't reach it.

She pulled herself forward with one arm, one metre. Two metres, three. All of her limbs were numb, her side was screaming at her to stop, black spots forming in her eyes, but she had to make it. She had to get to somewhere she would be seen. She couldn't remember why exactly, but she had to get to them. She had to get to Praesidio.

With what little strength she had left she pulled herself another metre. Her vision went dark, and as she felt herself lose all consciousness she heard a soft voice whisper to her two words as if they had floated to her carried by the wind; "Regina Magna," it spoke.

Authors Note:

Hey Y'all! As you may be able to see this is my first Wattpad book. As a person who loves to write but often lacks the motivation to do so I can tell you all now that at this point in time this book is unlikely to have frequent updates (especially as I am deciding to write this at the pretty dumb time when I have school exams coming up). However, I will make a pretty big effort to get updates out to you all about once every two weeks (at the moment).

Also a small piece of information for you all, I am from New Zealand, which means that (yes) I use weird spellings for things and strange slang (which I will attempt to refrain from using all too often). I also use the metric system, which as you may have noticed uses kilometres instead of miles, metres instead of feet, etc. For your information, 1 mile is equal to approximately 1.6 Km (1,000 metres) and one foot is approximately 0.3 metres.

Anyway, enough of my measurement tangent, I would greatly appreciate it if people could KINDLY point out any grammatical errors to me. I am a learning writer and I know that I make mistakes and am rather willing to improve on that. However, any unkind messages in regards to anything will not be tolerated.

On another note, please keep in mind that this is currently a draft, and I am constantly coming back to chapters and editing them, however there will be no changes to the actual storyline during this process.

In conclusion, my apologies for this extensive authors note, you may return to reading.
