This is a different, more modern interpretation of Devil May Cry. I have played the games but I wanted to write my own take on the series, starting from the beginning. I hope you enjoy!
Dante and Vergil always knew they were different than normal humans. They could do things normal humans couldn't. Intense inhuman strength. Agility far behold that of a normal human, even at 16 years of age. It wasn't until recently though that their father, Sparda, informed them of their heritage. The twins were still coming to terms with the idea. Half demon, half human.
Dante let out a bored sigh. "C'mon, this is boring father. Can't we do something else. Can't we hunt demons!
"You know you're not ready for that kind of journey, Dante. Besides.. I'm far stronger than any demon you'll face." Sparda laughed to himself in an obnoxious manner.
"Old cocky bastard!" Dante angrily swung towards his father, only to be left with the taste of dirt in his mouth after a nasty hit.
"Brother, you should know by now that you are no match for father." Vergil leaned down beside Dante and gave him a smile. Vergil extended his hand out to his brother.
Dante smiled and shook Vergil's hand away. "Like I need help from you, nerd."
"You can't beat father, so clearly you need all the help you can get."
Dante snarled. "You can't even beat father, so don't go mouthing off!" Dante stood off the ground and patted the dirt off his pants.
"That's because I know not to attempt a fight I can't win." Vergil looked at his brother and smirked. "Want to have a little fight, brother?"
"perhaps you two can fight another day, family meeting." Sparda picked up the two boys and flung them into the house, each of the two landing in a chair, gracefully sliding across the floor. Sparda then closed the door to the abandoned house.
Vergil sighed let out a sigh of concern. "Father, when will you tell us why we are on the run?"
"Father is something wrong..?" Dante asked.
"It's time I told you about something.. Something I should have told you long ago. Concerning your mother. Many years ago your mother was-
"Killed. We know dad. We remember." Dante interrupted.
"Let father finish, Dante."
"Your mother was killed by a man named Mundus. He wanted you two. My only boys. A demon and a Human was incomprehensible. But when he learned about what a Nephilim like yourselves were capable of, even as children.. He wanted you for himself."
"Father.. Were we the reason Mom-
"No! It was never either of your faults, Vergil. We protected you because we love you. Nobody ever said no to Mundus. So he snapped your mothers neck right in front of me. Would have killed me too if I hadn't ran."
"You.. You let Mom die.. You ran?!"
"I ran to protect you Dante! Your brother, too! He was going to study you and tear you apart in the process. I had no choice. I'm so sorry. I should have told you boys years ago."
"I understand Father.. But why are you telling us this now?"
"Because he is coming. I know it for sure. I can feel his presence. But that is besides the point. We need to get you boys ready, and fast. I'm sending the two of you on a mission to find yourselves. The inner demon. You need to become powerful. Strong. As powerful as I may seem, either of you could kill me if you wanted to.
"I couldn't even land a hit on you, dad. What makes you think we're capable of that?" Dante said, annoyed.
"Because you are my sons. Now then, you will travel north until you arrive at a cave shaped like a small hut. I have a set of tasks and trials prepared for the both of you once you arrive."
Vergil looked at his brother, then at their father. "What if we fail?"
"Then don't bother coming home, because if you fail, we all die."
Dante stood up and stretched "Well we better get going if we're gonna save the world, brother. We'll come back and kill this bastard together, right pops?"
"Indeed you are."
Vergil stood up as well and looked at his father. "We will come back and make you proud, Father.
The two boys set off on their long, perilous journey to unlock their full potential.
