"She'll never be the same." Glen whispered, running his fingers through her hair as he laid down beside her.

Jay did come over early in the morning but Kate had still been asleep. Dr Charles arrived shortly before lunch an hour after Kate had woken up quite groggy from the sedative.
This time he wouldn't let her avoid it any longer, they would start up an intense recovery programme. This time he did prescribe her medication, one of which being sleeping pills to get through the night. She needed her rest in order for her to recover.
The first two hours they mostly sat in silence, or she tried to change the subject like she'd been doing since the start. He assured her that everything would be alright, that she was safe enough with him to open up. He didn't let her change the subject any longer, she needed a little push. He assured her that she wasn't at fault for all that had happened.
For her it was hard to believe though, especially the last part as she was sat on the window seat. Her knees pulled up to her chest as she looked out the window. Glen, Catherine and Will were left picking up the phone and assuring everyone that her first night out of hospital had been a though one, but she'd pulled through it.
She'd be forever grateful to them, to Will, her brother in everything but blood. Catherine, her lost twin sister in so many ways and her best friend before Mia and Pippa. Glen, her soul mate and the man she loved more than life itself.
In the afternoon, long after Charles had retreated, Catherine looked up when she watched Kate walk into the kitchen. She headed for the opposite side of the island and sat down at it, it surprised Catherine more than a little as she was preparing dinner for the evening.
The children were being occupied by William and Glen in the pool by the side of the house. Louis lay in his cradle near the open French doors for a bit of draft which brought some relief against the heat that hit Europe. Catherine watched as Kate looked towards her godson. "You want to hold him?" Catherine asked her with a calm tone. Kate and her were always able to speak their mind to each other and Catherine was scared for her friend at this point. Kate hadn't even held her own son in a decent manner, scared or whatever, Catherine didn't know.
"I might kill him to." Kate muttered under her breath but Catherine had heard it though and let out a resigned sigh. She couldn't imagine what her best friend was going through. Yes she'd had a miscarriage but not in the way that Kate had endured it though.
With her and Will it had been a simple manner in a way, like so many other woman who went through a miscarriage. It still hurt Catherine to know that at this point she could have had four children. Kate had been the one to support her through the hurt between George and Charlotte and than between Charlotte and Louis. Kate had been her pillar of support. Catherine always took comfort in the fact that she had three little sweethearts and that's what was important to her.
But in Kate's case it hadn't been a simple miscarriage. It had happened through a traumatic event. To go through the shootout and such and to then loose a baby from getting shot twice in the attempt of saving other people. "You won't." Catherine reassured her, she didn't want to ask the obvious question of how she felt. It was written all of her friend's face.
"I haven't even held Arthur like I should have." Kate shrugged her shoulder as she gazed out of the windows. "You want me to go and get him, he's in the pool with Glen and William." Catherine informed her, but they could hear the noises of the children filtering in from the pool. But Kate simply shook her head.
"Do you know where Lexi and Miranda are?" Kate asked Catherine out of the blue after a few minutes of staring out in the distance, listening to the noises of the children in the pool.
