"It was great, the band surprised me after the party. They left on Sunday night."
"Trevor?"
I frowned, shaking my head.
"That's messed up, I'm sorry."
"It's fine, I can't control it, you know?"
"Ya, but you can control lying to yourself. Which you're obviously doing if you honestly think you're fine."
I shook my head with a strained expression.
"If you're trying to get me to talk about it. There's nothing to talk about since we haven't talked since the concert."
"I know- I just, I wish I could do something about it."
"Now you know how I feel about your situation with Ladybug."
I nudged his shoulder playfully, glancing up to meet his eyes. His gaze was stern and calculating, his eyes dancing over the features of my face.
"If I couldn't handle it I would come to you, and I want you to know that."
Chat's eyes softened and he took a deep breath.
"That's all I want Purrincess."
"I promise then."
He smiled and reached into his pocket, pulling out something small. I groaned.
"You did not get me a gift, Chat stop-"
"Shush and let me give you it, you're gonna love it."
I sighed dramatically leaning back against the railing with a hand draped over my forehead.
"The famous Chat Noir got me a present, oh how chivalrous!"
He simply chuckled and gently nabbed my hand away from my forehead. I turned to face him, resisting the subtle urge to take my hand back. Chat carefully slipped a ring into the palm of my hand.
"I got it a bit big because I didn't want it to be too small. Happy Birthday, y/n."
I turned it over in my hand, it was a silver chain of flowers. Engraved on the inner side were the words 'I pick you'. I slipped it on my ring finger where it sat with Luka's bracelet. Twisting my hand back and forth in the light to watch it shine.
"I love it Chat, it's beautiful. Thank you."
"Of course Purrincess."
We fell into a comfortable silence looking out at the city. I found that we do this a lot. It's not as though we don't have anything to talk about, it's more like we enjoy each other's presence enough to value the silence.
A shiver swept through me as a gust of wind nipped at any of the bare skin my sweatshirt and sweatpants left. I turned back to the table and picked up the now lukewarm hot chocolate to hold. Chat looked up at the sky absentmindedly.
"It's supposed to snow tonight."
I returned to my spot on the railing by his side.
"Do you know how much?"
"No idea but enough that you'll need to bundle up for school tomorrow."
"Okay, Mom."
"I'm just saying if you're skateboarding you might want to-"
I cut him off with a giggle at his 'mother henning'.
"I'll be fine, I'll make sure to bundle up just for you."
He nodded then checked his watch which was flashing with a notification, he grimaced in response and stepped back from the railing.
"Duty calls."
