Chapter 11: Let's Play a Little Game

Start from the beginning

“So where you want to go now?” He asked.

“I kind of want to see Dmitri.” I replied, glancing over.

“Are you going to try and implement that plan already?” Quinton questioned.

“I don’t want to see him to try and have sex with him. I just want to ask him some questions about these texts.” I answered.

“You know you don’t have to visit him for that, right? Just call him.”

“I guess you’re right.” I said, preparing to call Dmitri. The phone rung and rung and it seemed he wasn’t going to answer. But after a while, he finally picked up.

“What?” Dmitri spat into the phone.

“Are you OK?” I asked, a little taken back. Was he bipolar?

“Yeah, Andre, I’m fine. Just a little pissed about something.” He replied. I sat silent for a moment, not sure if this was the best time to call. But he had just been texting me. Quinton was still holding his attention on me, trying to read my face to figure what Dmitri was saying.

“Well I hope whatever it is, you feel better. Can I ask you question though?” I finally asked.

“No, but I’m sure you’ll ask me anyway.” Dmitri answered nonchalantly.

“What’s going on with the texts? Did you really mean all those things you were saying?” I asked slowly. There was a long pause on the other end of the call. I looked over at Quinton who had a questioning look on his face. I gave him a shrug, signaling I was a little lost myself.

“See what had happened was…I had been drinking…A LOT…so to be honest, I barely remember texting you…” Dmitri answered, seeming to trail off. I felt a little disappointed by that, but I also didn’t take it as a complete loss. A drunken tongue speaks sober thoughts, so regardless if Dmitri was drunk texting me, he was revealing the true feelings he had for me. But I know by saying it to him, it might scare him off, so for now, I’ll just play dumb.

“Ohhh so you were just drunk texting. Never mind then.” I said in a ditzy tone, chuckling a little. Quinton’s eyes went wide as he heard me say this.

“That’s all you have to say? Really?” Dmitri asked, sounding surprised. I smirked, feeling like my act was working.

“Should I have said more? I mean, you were just drunk so anything you said must have been because of the alcohol.” I responded, still with the ditsy tone.

“I guess not. You’re right…wow. Well I’m glad you understand then.” He said, sounding relieved. Hmm. I knew he wouldn’t be ready to talk about his feelings. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes though because he bought my ditsy act.

“Well, I’ll talk to you later. Bye.” I said.

“Bye.” Dmitri replied, hanging up. I looked over at Quinton who was staring at me like I was insane.

“Are you seriously that naïve?” He asked me. I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Quinton, I was playing dumb. Everyone knows that alcohol simply brings out the truth in someone.” I chuckled out. Quinton’s face went blank before smirking.

“Oh wow, I was about to say.” He chuckled.

“I knew if I would’ve called him out on it, he’d get all ass-like. At this point, I just have to try and get him to chase after me. So I guess I’ll definitely go through with that plan.” I explained smiling. Quinton shot me a smile and nodded before turning the keys in his ignition.
