meteorites

some would say looking back at the previous
pages of my writing that i keep comparing our
love to the stars and the vast universe. i had
every right to. i saw you as the stars, the moon
and the galaxies. i saw particles of stardust in
your eyes, the colours of the planets in your
heart; a beating vessel filled with so much
more potential beyond the meteorites falling
into the crevices of it. when i looked out at the
moon during the darkness of the night, i saw
a boy who lost trust in the universe but still
shone his light out from a distance. when the
sun came up, i saw such a burning desire for
hope; hope that the universe had not failed
you yet, that you could one day love again.
and that is why i decided to let you go. you
may not have realised the love i held for you
was enough to shake mountains and valleys
but i wanted you to be loved again, even if it
was not by me.
