Chapter Twenty-Two

Start from the beginning

"Oh God! No, let's talk about something else." Her smile stretches ear to ear at my discomfort.

"Why? I think it's cute."

"I think it's weird! I don't see you as 'Demi Lovato, the worldwide superstar' anymore."

"Rude." She feigns hurt. I nudge her softly.

"Shut up, you know what I mean. The only time I really think about your fame is when the press or your fans swarm us, but other than that, you're just my Demi." Her smile grows, if that is even possible. "What?"

"You called me yours."

"Oh, uh- Sorry." A pink tinge takes over my cheeks.

In a swift movement, Demi straddles me, wrapping her arms around the back of my neck. My heart begins racing at her closeness. "Don't be, I like it."

"You do?" I ask sceptically. My arms rest against her back, fighting the temptation to slip under her shirt.

Her hand rests against my neck as our eyes lock. It seems for a moment that she is holding saying something back. Enjoying her closeness and her touch, my eyes close. I feel her move closer to my face, so I open my eyes once more, as she whispers, "Your heart is beating really fast."

"Do you have to point it out?" I whine as my head tips back. She uses her hand to bring one of mine around from her back, and rests it against her chest. I feel the fabric of her t-shirt beneath my fingers, the heat radiating from her skin beneath that. But more than that, I feel her heart beating; it's as fast as mine.

I move my hand to caress her face, a sensation she leans into. Without any words, we both lean into the other and our lips connect. I hear her take in a deep breath, with the softest moan; I would have missed it if I didn't pay attention to everything she does. Her hand moves to my hip, gripping the end of my t-shirt; I can tell she is trying to decide whether or not to initiate more.

Taking the choice out of her hands, I lean onto my knees and lay her on her back, not breaking the kiss. Feeling her smile against my lips is one of the best things I've ever felt. My top beings rising up my body, followed by her nails running against the bare skin of my back. Kneeling, I help her and pull the shirt off me. While I discard it, her fingers run down my stomach. I see her watching the movement. She looks up at me and bites her lip. Resting my hands either side of her shoulders, I watch her watch me. There is a look in her eye that I can't place. It isn't lust or desire; it is something more substantial than that. It's as if her eyes are trying to tell me something that I don't know yet.

My lips crave hers once more and I give in. Softly, our lips meet. We both take our time, not in any rush. It's as if with this kiss we are both trying to convey everything we have been feeling. My hand moves down to her hip, where it slips under her top this time. Her skin is soft against mine, like silk. Her back arches off the bed slightly, giving me the opportunity to take her shirt off; which I do. I can't help but take in all her beauty. She shifts slightly under my gaze.

"You're mesmerising," I breath out.

She pulls me down by her hands on my back, our bodies press flush together. We lock lips again, with more desire than previously. All of a sudden there is a knock at the door, and it's pushed open – revealing a very surprised and impressed looking Hayden - before either Demi or I could do anything about our current position.

"Hayden, get out!" I say from on top of Demi, who looks like she's trying to stifle a laugh.

"I'm sorry!" She backs up, placing a hand over her eyes. "I just wanted to let you know I'm going out, but you're obviously too busy to care. Have fun kids!" She shouts the last part as she runs away from the incoming pillow, shutting the door behind her.

I drop my head into the safety of Demi's neck, while she starts laughing. Her arms wrap around me; I'm can't help but smile at the action.

"I'm sorry," I say as I pull back slightly. "I've told her about knocking."

"I mean, technically she did knock." In response, I glare down at her; only making her smile more. "Baby, it's okay. Best-friends aren't supposed to have boundaries."

Butterflies ravage my stomach at being called 'baby'. "I'm sure you'll think differently when the same thing happens and we're in a less innocent position or less clothing... Or both."

"Okay, I take it back. But I would much rather carry on from we were before being interrupted, than talk parenting strategies for your friend." She scratches my back again, only this time there's a lot more pressure in her nails. The sensation draws a low moan out of me.

"Yes ma'am." I refocus my kisses to her neck, looking for the spot that I know drives her crazy.

It doesn't take me long to find it. As a reward, I hear her breathing hitch, followed by a soft moan, only motivating me to leave my mark. I've changed my mind; my favourite sound is her breathing out my name.
