Chapter 62: Regret

Start from the beginning

"I had to babysit him for 2 whole years before you came along. Now you know what I faced." Casey replied sombrely.

"Ha, ha, ha..." Evan drawled sarcastically, taking his luggage off Seb, "If you're all finished not being funny, I'd like a tour."

The four of them made their way inside and were greeted by Antti in the lounge room. He had the fire burning in the corner and the TV was switched on. There was also a strong, delicious smell of Italian food wafting from the kitchen. The full effect was very homely.

"Antti, I think you missed your calling as a housekeeper." Casey said observantly.

He laughed and shrugged, "Just enjoying not being in an apartment."

"Seb, have you briefed these two that they're not allowed to fall in love with each other?" Evan asked, swirling his finger through the air and pointing first at Antti and then Casey.

Casey's jaw dropped open in horror while Jacob slapped his hand over Evan's mouth.

"Let me at him." Casey murmured threateningly as Evan tore Jacob's hand away and grinned proudly.

"Oh no you don't." Seb chuckled as he scooped Casey into his arms to stop her from lunging at Evan and causing any bodily damage.

Antti stood rooted to the spot, awkwardly looking between everyone.

"I did not fall in love with Heikki." Casey hissed, squinting at Evan menacingly over Seb's shoulder.

"Shh." Seb cooed, pressing his lips against hers and instantly distracting her.

Casey felt electricity spiralling up through her chest as he kissed her lovingly, instantly quelling her Evan-induced rage.

Evan rolled his eyes playfully, "Right, that's them out for the evening then. We'll just show ourselves to our room."

With that, he turned towards the staircase and motioned for Jacob to follow him as he bounded up the stairs, thumping his case against each step as he went. Antti watched him go in bewilderment before glancing back at Seb and Casey who were now completely immersed in each other. He shook his head in confusion and headed back to the kitchen to check on the food.

Seb sensed they were alone and pushed Casey up against the nearest wall, burying his hands in her hair and running his tongue along her bottom lip.

Casey slipped her hands up his chest and over his shoulders, appreciating every muscle along the way.

Finally, Seb pulled away just enough to let her catch her breath.

"What was that for?" Casey whispered, finding his blue eyes staring straight back at hers.

"Because what Evan said made me remember something."

"What?" Casey asked warily. The subject of Heikki was rarely a comfortable experience anymore.

"Remember at the track, on Monday... when I finally found you." he murmured quietly, before leaning in to place a gentle kiss on her lips.

"Yeah..." Casey replied, frowning briefly as his lips left hers again.

"I'd been watching from the garage door for a couple of minutes, before I called out to you."

Casey thought back to what she might have been doing but it all really seemed like a blur. She remembered being wrapped against Heikki's chest for awhile there, but after that, she couldn't be sure.

"Do you remember?" he continued softly.

"I remember seeing you." she replied with a shrug. She wracked her brain. Dear God, please let me not have been doing something awful.
