Sacrifice

"Let go of me! What are you doing" Alice hissed at the man tying her up with thick ropes.

"We have to appease the monster that steals our livestock. If we give it you maybe it will be satisfied." The town leader told Alice. "No one wants you anyways orphan."

"You're sacrificing me? You won't get away with this. This is just cruel."

"You will see tomorrow when everyone sees you off to be devoured by this monster. You will see that nobody cares about you."

Alice flipped the leader the bird and he walked out slamming the heavy door behind him. She sat in the dark. Tears brimmed in her eyes. She didn't want to die. She already knew that nobody cared or wanted her. That's why she was in the orphanage for 18 years. She lied down on the cold concrete floor she slowly drifted to a night of restless sleep.

"Get up" The town leader was back in Alice's cell. He kicked her in the ribs. He checked to make sure if the ropes around her ankles and wrists were tight so she couldn't escape. He drug her up off of the floor.

"I can walk myself let go of me." Alice glared at the man. He escorted her out of the cell and to the edge of the forest. Everyone from the town was there even the children. Alice was placed in front of everyone.

"Oh great beast." The town leader began shouting at the top of his lungs. "Please accept this sacrifice and stop taking our livestock."

Alice heard trees cracking as a Giant emerged from the trees. He looked down at Alice and the townspeople.

"Untie her," The giant said. The town leader had some men untie her. The giant bent down and placed his hand flat on the ground for Alice to walk onto. Alice climbed onto his hand. He brought her up to his chest and held her against him but not tightly like she would have expected. It was protective.

"Beast do you accept our offering to you?" The town leader questioned him.

"All of you should be ashamed of yourselves." the giant growled at the town. "This is a child what do you expect me to do with her? Swallow her whole? Is that it?"

"You can do whatever you want to her," the town leader said.

The giant smashed his boot to the ground inches from the leader. Screams came from the crowd but everyone was too frightened to move or run

"You disgust me. All of you. You would sacrifice a living breathing child so I stop taking one or two cows or pigs every once in a while. She is a child."

"No, she is 18, therefore, an adult." The town leader said. The giant picked him up by the back of his shirt.

"She is a child. Her brain is still developing. Yes, she can take care of herself now but she isn't an adult quite yet. What if instead of her I wanted your child"

"Please, n...no don't take my little girl."

"How is her life any different than your little girl?" The crowd and town leader were all silent. The giant dropped the town leader from a height of 5 feet. He scrambled over to his family. "You all disgust me for letting this happen to one of your own kind. Pathetic." The giant spat his words to the crowd.

The giant man turned back to the forest walking away with Alice still in his palm. He walked for a while until they were at the entrance to a cave. The giant man pushed a rather large boulder in front of the entrance. He sat down at a table and gently set Alice down.

"Thank you," Alice said shyly.

"Mmhmm"

"I'm... Alice" He held out his index finger.
