The Art of Potion-Making

Not so soon after Lana had finished setting up in the Salvatore dining area did Elijah return with the resurrection potion in hand.

She wasn't sure what she had been expecting. But it could have at least glowed or something.

Instead, it was fairly plain looking. A round crystal bottle filled with a clear liquid which, if it weren't for the slight yellowish tinge, could have easily been mistaken for water. The only indication that the solution held any value was in the way the original vampire carefully pried the bottle from its container before handing it over.

Lana set to work immediately. Pulling the stopper from the crystal bottle, she took a sample of the potion to begin testing. This was where it got difficult. In order to determine the potion's ability, Lana would first have to figure out what ingredients and spells were used in its creation. Not only would this take time, but also resources. Namely the potion itself. Something Lana wanted to avoid as much as possible due to them needing the potion the next day. Last thing they wanted was to go use the potion, only to discover there wasn't enough.

A shiver of excitement travelled through Lana's body. It was rare that she had to work under these conditions since leaving Mystic Falls. While the pressure and expectations of the Scooby gang was one of the reasons that Lana left, she couldn't deny the rush of anticipation that came with pushing her abilities.

This right here was where Lana always flourished.

Combined with the chance of examine an ancient potion, Lana silently admitted that she had missed Mystic Falls and its ever present drama.

Not that she would ever say so out loud.

Damon would never let her forget it.

What a dick.

Lana rolled her eyes before realising that she was not alone.

Elijah had not left like she thought. But, instead, had proceeded to circle the table, hand grazing lightly over the equipment and herbs she had laid out.

"Can I help you?" queried Lana as she squinted at him from the other side of the dining table.

"You already are, are you not?" he replied, almost jokingly. He was now casually leafing through Lana's grimoire, examining each page with careful scrutiny.

Considering who his mother was, Elijah was no stranger to a witch's grimoire. Some aspects were similar but he had yet to come across one that didn't have its own personalised touch. Lana's was no exception. In fact, he could easily say that he had never seen one as organised as hers. Each image was carefully inscribed onto the page. The writing itself was perfectly legible and she had even gone to the lengths of colour-coding it. Black ink was basic information with red ink outlining possible drawbacks. Green ink enlightened the reader of alternative magic with page numbers available while blue ink seemed to be Lana's own personal experiences using the spell in question. An altogether thorough rendition of someone completely dedicated to their art.

A hand covered the page that he was browsing cutting off any further thought, which caused Elijah to turn back to the young witch. Lana, having been irked by his brush off, had moved closer to the original and obscured his line of sight to her grimoire.
