Chapter 3
They say the hardest stage with a baby is the early years. Well they are definitely right. When I decided to take her in I didn't think about how hard it would be to take care of a baby, especially if you're a cat. If you think changing a diaper is a pain try doing it without opposable thumbs. The first two years were the longest two years of my life. Every time I fed her I had to turn around again and change her diaper. She would then fall asleep and the cycle would start over again when she woke up.
"Why am I doing this," I thought as I was changing a diaper for the thousandth time.
This may sound terrible, but I haven't named her. I don't know of any good names. I've considered Emily, but that would be too weird. One summer afternoon I thought of the perfect name. Her name will be Meera Alise Binx. I changed her last name so people wouldn't think she was related to the Sanderson sisters. That would be a mess! Once we got passed the terrible twos life was smooth sailing. I taught her how to talk when she was three and she learned to walk shortly after that. Meera loved to draw. It seems like she would draw anything that was on her mind. Once I was afraid because she drew a very vivid picture of her mother and her aunts. It also had another girl in the picture who looked oddly familiar. It represented the Sanderson sisters being resurrected from the grave. Once I thought about this terrible prediction I realized Meera had powers. I thought a witch had to reveal powers to their own children. Meera had the psychic trait, which her grandmother had. This only meant that the Sanderson sisters will be back and Winifred's curse worked. The scary thing is we don't know which Halloween it will be.
~ September 7th, 1700: First day of school ~
I remember Meera's first day of school just like it was yesterday. I put her in her best dress, a long white dress with red and pink flowers on it, with her Mary Janes and a bow in her hair. She kept asking me all kinds of questions like "what will we do?" and "will there be toys?" I told her multiple time that if anyone asks about her parents that she must say that her mother died when she was born and her father is a farmer. I urged her not to say anything about being raised by a talking cat because that would cause problems. I think she understood. I hung around the school the whole day to make sure everything went well. It seemed as if she made a few friends and I think she likes school.
When it was time for school to be over she had to walk home. I met her once the school was out of sight.
"How was your first day of school Meera?" I asked her.
"Oh Thackery," she said in a morbid tone. "I hate school!"
"Why?" I asked.
"Everyone hates me," she said. "They made fun of my dress AND my shoes."
She sat down on a rock and began crying.
"I wish you would've never put me in this stupid school!" She exclaimed.
"Did they say why they didn't like your dress?" I asked.
"They said it looked like something their grandmother would wear. And then they said where did your mom get that ugly thing?" She said as she was crying.
"And what did you say?" I asked bracing myself for whatever she was going to say next.
"I said my mother is dead and then they were silent, but they wouldn't stop giggling."
"Those kids sound jealous," I said.
There was a long period of silence until Meera asked,
