Chapter 4

That following Saturday we tested her powers. I didn't realize that she had developed so many within the past seven years. I knew she had psychic abilities and a few others, but not like the amount that she has now. Not only did she have a lot, but they were also very powerful. She had most of the powers that Winifred had, but she also inherited a few from her grandmother. She can also sing, but she doesn't have the power to hypnotize anyone with it, unless I'm just immune to it considering I'm the only one that has heard her sing. She can levitate things, blow things up, make things disappear, make things appear out of nowhere, move things, and many others. We discovered Winifred's broom and she wanted to ride on it, but I thought it wouldn't be such a good idea.

"Oh my gosh! My mother's broom!" She said with excitement. "Can I ride it, Thackery? Please?" She pleaded with her big, brown puppy dog eyes glued to me.

"No. Something could go wrong," I said.

"Nothing will go wrong. I'm a witch, these things are like second nature to us. It's like breathing," she said.

"Maybe when you're a little older," I said. "Plus, you said you wanted to test your powers today."

"Oh, alright," she said sadly.

I have to say that the rest of the day was pretty exciting. Meera learned a little bit about her powers and it was fun to watch her have fun and forget about school and other things. I know she misses her mother and that she wants to meet her so badly. Sometimes I do hope that a virgin comes along and lights that stupid candle just so she could meet her mother, but then I come back to reality. If that were to happen, and it is bound to happen someday, it would be a recipe for disaster.

Within the next month, Meera had gained a lot of confidence in herself. I think she likes being able to be herself and discover herself and her powers. One day while she was at school and I was cleaning her room, I found another journal entry.

December 10th, 1705

Dear Diary,

Binx is letting me use my powers now. I'm so excited to learn to control them and be able to know that I won't accidentally do something bad with them. It's really fun to make things disappear. I also can't wait until I'm old enough to ride on my mother's broom. I feel like I would be able to somehow connect with her if I could ride on it. I miss my mother. I really do miss her. I have dreams almost every night about her and meeting her. I don't want to tell Binx because it might hurt his feelings. I really want to see her spell book, but Binx says it's dangerous. Maybe I could convince him to let me open it just one time. Anyway, it's time for supper. I'll write to you again.

Sincerely,

Meera Alise Binx

Maybe I could let her ride it just once.

I contemplated the rest of the day about it. What could go wrong? She probably won't be able to work it anyway. She's only twelve and she's just now learning to use her powers! Then again, something could go terribly wrong. She could crash and she would have to go to the hospital, but I can't take her because I'm a cat. I need to tell someone so they can help me if something like this were to occur.

But who?

Then it suddenly came to me. My best friend, the one who called for the villagers twelve years ago. The one man I can trust.
