He only shook his head as he crossed the threshold to hand me a small box that had been resting in his sweatshirt pocket. I took it from him hesitantly.

"I didn't have enough time to wrap it, but I picked it up after I dropped you off at the party."

He sheepishly explained, staring down at me as I opened the box.

"Happy Birthday."

The inside held a simple silver bracelet, on a dainty chain rested a small music note, a quaver, and clicking against it lightly was a blue topaz, my birthstone. My eyes widened as I set the box behind me on the vanity table and examined the bracelet in the dim purple light of Juleka's room.

"You inspire me a lot in my music without even knowing it. I wanted to get you something that reminds you there is at the very least someone out there you are precious to."

He scratched the back of his neck, a light pink creeping over his complexion.

"But I guess that's a bit dorky for me to-"

I cut him off by pulling him into a bone-crushing hug, awkwardly wrapping my arms around his torso because of his height. I took a breath against his chest as he stood stunned.

"That's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. Thank you."

He let out a short breath of air he must have been holding back, tightening his grip around me. I pulled away first shortly after.

"Here I'll help you put it on."

He drew me closer by a light pull of the wrist, I placed the bracelet in his other hand. Taking the bracket and clipping it around my wrist. I couldn't bring my eyes up to meet his, too flustered by the little bit of space between us. I could feel his gaze burning into the top of my head, my hand in his, he ran circles over the back of my hand with his thumb. He let my hand fall after a few seconds, I placed it back on the vanity table that I was pressed up against. Finally, I forced myself to glance up at him through my lashes, my mind running laps.

'What are we? God, he looks really hot right now. Is this okay when he's my friend's brother? I don't think I can do a relationship right now. What am I doing?'

He glanced down at me and started leaning down a bit, our faces growing closer.

"Are you guys ready to go?"

Juleka asked from the other side of the door. I flinched away from him at the moment, turning to look at the door with wide eyes.

'Why am I getting a sick sense of deja vu from this situation?'

Caught between wanting the ground to swallow me up whole and responding, Luka decided for us. Taking a step back, he spoke, coughing into his hand a bit.

"Yep let me grab our stuff."

Walking down the street to meet the others at my apartment was comfortably silent, Juelka stared off into the distance while Luka hummed softly.

I busied myself with appreciating the sounds and sights of Paris at night. Lights twinkled overhead and music floated from homes and apartments. I felt content, in the calming serene replaying of the night's events in my head.

We were almost to the house when I felt my phone vibrate in the pocket of my sweatpants. I shifted my Stitch stuffed animal in my arms struggling to grab my phone until Juleka intervened and handed it to me. I thanked her and answered the call, wedging the phone between my ear and my shoulder.

"What's up, Nino?"

"Umm, dude there are some random dudes outside your house. I think they know you but their French is wild man."

My brows knit together into a curious frown.

"I'll be there in five."

I hung up the phone and picked up my walking pace, the siblings following me. Luka was the first to match my steps, most likely because of his long legs.

"What's going on?"

"There are two randos outside my house."

When the apartment finally grew in sight I spotted a car parked on the curb in front of the library. My friends were forming a wall next to the car creepily staring at us as we speed walked up to them. When I finally got up to them I tried to peek around them at what they were hiding.

"What the hell, I thought you said there were people here?!"

I panted from walking so fast, that Alya simply grinned at me.

"Na that was just part of the surprise."

I shot her a disgruntled look, before turning to face Luka and Juleka. Who similarly had sly smiles on their faces. Finally, after a beat Nino, Alya, Marinette, and Rose stepped aside. Revealing to figures who were previously crouched behind them. It only took me a second to recognize them.

"No freaking way!"

I shot a hand up over my mouth. Caleb and Jake beamed from ear to ear at me.

"Told you my gift was gonna be the best. Happy Birthday!"

Tears peaked at the corners of my eyes as I closed the gap between the two of them and myself. Caleb reaches out to me first, picking me up by the waist and twirling me around. Jake comes barreling in from the side a few seconds later, tackling both of us in a hug as we laugh like idiots. When the blonde finally set me down I pulled them both into a softer group hug. I mumbled into their chests.

"I hate you guys so much."

Caleb howled with laughter tightening his hold on me, Jake chuckling along with him.

"Missed you too."

I wiped a few tears that I would lie about later.

"How are you guys here?!"

Caleb pulled away and smiled cheekily at Alya, then proceeded to mess up my damp hair.

"We pulled a few strings to get here but it was worth it in the end."

Jake jumped in with a much-needed better explanation.

"We were always going to surprise you but then we saw your friends throwing you a party so we DM'd them on Instagram to help us out."

He chuckled.

"In short, we missed you."

Caleb nodded in agreement. We came together once again into a group hug, holding each other tightly. Just basking in one another's presence, I sniffled slightly into Caleb's blue flannel.

We parted and I looked over at my friends, trying hard not to smile.

"I can not believe you guys had me worried for nothing!"

Marinette giggled and shrugged.

"We needed to get you here quickly."

I locked eyes with Luka as the group began to chatter amongst themselves. He looked at me with a soft smile, but I watched it flicker just a bit as Caleb leaned down to whisper in my ear not so secretly

"What are they saying?"

I turned my focus away from the guitarist when it finally hit me that Caleb and Jake couldn't speak French.

"They're talking about how they planned the whole surprise."

"They're liars, we were going to surprise you either way!"

He faked offense and proceeded to curse at them in English. I just laughed and hugged Jake closer, watching the blonde fondly.
