The color white normally and naturally makes everything seem so peaceful and angelic, yet the garter that was around my thigh under my dress was a bright red. I laughed softly to myself as I looked down at my white over sized dress and thought about the events that were going to play out this evening, play being the operative word.
After all the planning, arguing and finally coming to a settled conclusion, Cole and I had decided to get married a year after he started to walk again. "Stupid man." I muttered to myself as I looked at the mirror, thinking of the handsome guy that put a ring on my finger. Light and airy thoughts, Cora, my mind reminded me.
I sighed and looked over my features again, wondering why this man decided to marry me. I asked him this question so many times and no matter when the day would be, this bad boy would always remind me that there was a softy behind the shadows that cast over his deathly and dangerous features. It was enticing to know that this man would make me smile everyday.
Getting married was just a minor part in our lives, it practically meant so little to us because as long as we had each other, then nothing else mattered. Marriage was a piece of paper, but no matter how many times I would tell Cole that, he knew that I wanted a wedding whether it be grand or not. Of course, Cole wanted to leave a more permanent mark on me to show every guy out there that I was his.
The engagement ring was beautiful, but the wedding ring itself looked as if it was a tattoo because of the marking on the underside of the ring as well as the fact that it was going to stay on my finger for the majority of my life. My heart started beating faster when I remembered that I was going to spend my life with Cole, the man I loved and funnily enough it didn't scare me.
A bright smile took over my face and I could feel the happy tears brimming my eyes, reminding me that I had so much to lose but even more to win. I flattened the non existent creases on my wedding dress, which was the traditional white but of course it was a huge contrast against the red colour of my hair and of course, the red garter around my thigh (for Cole's eyes only).
I looked up at the mirror for one last time and eyed myself. My hair was up in a bun with a couple strands of hair curled on the sides of my face, while a veil was on my head. My make up was light enough to draw more attention to the dress, but bold enough to note that I was wearing some on my face. The only thing left to do was pull the veil over my face and stand up.
"Cora, you ready?" I turned around and saw my mom pop her head through the door. She had already seen me in my dress, but still her eyes shone with tears when I stood up and I rolled my eyes when I felt my own tears building up. "Mom, stop! I'm going to ruin my make up." I said, laughing at the same time and then sniffling.
"I can't help the fact that my daughter looks beautiful and we're giving you away!" My mother said, coming closer towards me and pulling me into her arms. My dad's thundered after her and came into the room and soon enough, we were all hugging each other. We pulled away and my parent's put their hands on my cheek, each kissing my forehead.
"You ready to get married?" I looked up at my father and smiled again. He held his arm out and I took it as well as my mother's too. I decided that the bouquet wasn't going to be necessary at this point, so as I was going back down the aisle with Cole, I was going to have a bouquet and a wedding ring.
The three of us walked out out the room with the train of my dress trailing behind me. We got to the doors to where the actual wedding was going to be held and for the first time since coming to the church, my heart began to beat rapidly against my chest. My stomach twisted and turned out of excitement; I was getting married.
Jessie grinned at me and gave me a thumbs up before standing in position with Nick by her side before they hooked each other's arms. Two of my other bridesmaids had hooked their arms with some of Nick's other friends and I watched as the doors opened, but no one could see me yet because I was around the corner.
