~ This story is based on an imagine from imaginexhobbit: Imagine if Gandalf met Albus Dumbledore. ~

Gandalf had just finished his talk with Elrond and he was fed up with him. Why did nobody else but him understand the importance behind this quest? Granted, maybe he was trying to lure something out of the shadows, but they needed to know if their enemy was still alive or not. That's when he heard a soft chuckle behind him. Cautiously Gandalf turned around and saw man standing closely behind him.

Somehow the man reminded Gandalf of someone, but who? 'I'm sorry to disturb you at this hour, but I seem to have transported myself to the wrong place. Do you happen to know where I am?' the man asked with a slightly amused smile on his lips. Gandalf nodded and found himself intrigued with the man in front of him. He wore long, grey robes and he had long hair and beard. His hair was white, just like his. 'We're in Middle-Earth, but I assume that you've never heard about it?' Gandalf chuckled.

The man nodded and smiled at him. 'Indeed, I do not. But I believe I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Dumbledore, Albus Dumbledore.' Gandalf nodded and noticed that the sun had disappeared from the sky. The moon had taken his turn at the top of the horizon. 'Can I tempt you with a cup of tea?' he suggested. The man doubted for a second, but then decided it could do no harm. Together they walked towards one of the tables outside on the square and Gandalf asked an elf to bring them some tea.

'May I assume that you are a wizard as well?' Dumbledore asked. Gandalf nodded and soon they found themselves comparing their lives with one another. 'I'm on a quest to help a group of dwarfs reclaim their homeland. But I can tell you, they are very stubborn! And they don't understand that sometimes I have more relevant stuff to do then to listen to them complaining about the lack food and shelter!' Gandalf complained.

Dumbledore sighed in agreement. 'I understand. I'm trying to keep a young boy alive so that he can die at the right time, but he can be so reckless at times. I'm afraid that he might kill himself before the enemy does. And just like you said, sometimes I have to leave him alone to take care of other things, and he just doesn't understand' Dumbledore complained. Gandalf lit his pipe and blew smoke circles in the air.

'You know you look a lot like me? It's just like I'm looking in a mirror' Dumbledore chuckled and Gandalf quickly joined him. 'I can say the same thing' he chuckled. 'So you have a great evil in your world as well?' Gandalf asked interested. 'Ah, yes, I do.' Both wizards nodded. 'It seems like our lives aren't that different.' 'I agree. But I'm afraid I must leave you, I have a feeling the boy got himself in danger once more.' Dumbledor got up from the bench and bowed his head to Gandalf.

'It was pleasant to meet you. We should do this again some time.' Gandalf bowed his head in return. He heard a small poof and Dumbledore had disappeared. 'Who was that?' an accusing voice asked behind him. Gandalf turned around to see Thorin standing there with his arms crossed and a not to friendly face. Gandalf smiled and tried to lighten the mood. 'That was another wizard, but I don't think we'll ever see him again.' Thorin frowned and looked behind the wizard, expecting to see Dumbledore there.

'Well, it's not my concern. But we do need to leave this place right now. I know that elf doesn't want us to leave, but this is not his decision to make. We need you to provide us with shelter during our travel through the mountains' and with that he turned around and walked back to his company. Gandalf sighed and followed the dwarf. 'Of course you need me.'
