"Why do I let you drag me along to the beach?" I stepped out the car grabbing my phone and water before shutting the door.
"Because you love me" Hailey, my best friend said and walked towards our spot on the sandy beach.
I rolled my eyes walking along with her, my feet getting buried in the sand. The sand felt hot as my foot planted on top of the golden-yellow grains below. At this point I thanked myself for wearing flip flops and not my usual sneakers.
Hailey unfolded her towel and laid it out nicely on top of the sand. She pulled her bright blue tank top off and pulled down her white jean shorts leaving her in her matching black bikini. She reached into her bag pulling out her black ray-ban sunglasses and put them on, laying on her towel in the sun soaking in all the rays trying to get her 'summer tan' as she calls it.
I was looking the complete opposite. I wore my black oversized t-shirt with a tiny, white ocean wave imprinted on the area just above my nip and my grey sweat-shorts. Underneath, i had my black bikini top and nothing but underwear under my shorts since i knew i wouldn't take them off anyways.
I loved the beach...just not walking around half naked on it for old men to stare.
I sat down criss-crossed on my towel that I laid out and pulled out my sunscreen from Hailey's bag. I've been in one too many health classes to know how skin cancer is caused. Not taking any risks today, I evenly sprayed the sunscreen all over my body and rubbed it into my skin.

After sitting in the sun for what felt like hours, Hailey sat up and wiped her forehead.
"It sure is hot today" She pulled out her water bottle from her bag taking a sip from it. "If i sit around any longer and not move I might burn to a crisp" She closed her water bottle and put it back into her bag.
She stood up from where she was seated and took a glance around the beach. Her head stopped about 40 degrees from where we were sitting.
I looked into her direction and saw exactly what she saw.
A group of boys who looked to be our age. There was 4 of them, all tall, some were more built than the others, shirtless. I recognize a few of them from school.
One of them, dark haired fella, looked over in our direction and his jaw basically dropped. Hailey sent a flirtatious wave at him and he winked at her before she turned and looked down at me.
"Come on, get up, let's go get an ice cream or something" She reached her hand out to help me off the ground which I took and stood up, brushing the bits of sand off my shorts.
"I'll pay this time" I reached into my pocket pulling out a $10 bill and waved it around.
We have a system going on where every time we hangout we pay for each others meals. Every time we go out, it switches. Today happened to be my turn.
"Fine, next time it's my turn " She smiled and turned, walking towards the ice cream shack.
I hopped around towards the shack as the sand was starting to burn my feet. The line up at the shack was not long at all. Only a few people ahead of us once we got there.
"Did you see those boys earlier" She asked as she stood leaning against the rail of the line we stood in.
"The ones you waved at, yea" I turned my head and looked over the menu trying to decide what to get. Mango sorbet, classic cookie dough, or a chocolate and vanilla twist. Too many to choose from.
"They were hot weren't they" She looked up and her face softened remembering the sight of them.
I laughed a little at how easily she swoons over guys. She could pull anyone she wanted easily but yet she's only dated 2 guys.
