*Hours later, at Topanga's, Elliot's POV*

I can't believe Riley didn't show up. Mom is gonna kill her! Talking about mom, she's really tired right now
"Gee, Mom, it must be tough when your oldest child lets you down, and you don't have any other children to give all of your love. Oh, wait, here's one now. Hi, Mommy!" I frown at my baby brother
"Hey! I exist too, you know?" she sighs
"Auggie, she's on her way. She'd be very foolish to be anywhere else" Spoiler alert: she won't be coming.
To be honest I understand her but I gotta take my mom's side on this. She didn't help her with the activity because of a series finale, she could just record it and watch it later, not that big of a deal.

*At night, at the Matthew's apartment*

This is the moment. Momma is so mad. I can't want to see what she'll do to Riley! This is gonna be fun, well, for me at least. She slowly opens the bedroom's door, making it squeak
"We're on TV!" Maya tries to climb out of the window but mom pulls her back in
"Oh. Okay!"
"You are now just as much a part of this as she is, accomplice"
"I told her she should be with you"
"Half-heartedly?"
"Whole Maya Hartedly!" I laugh at her pun and give her high-five. I love her sense of humor, it's so witty
"Is this true?" my sister nods
"She said, 'Are you sure you should be doing this?' and I said, 'Yes,' because the time has come where I should be able to make my own decisions" I raise my eyebrows
"And so you decided to not show up at the bakery. That was your first decision?"
"Tonight's finale is a very big deal in the lives of my generation"
"You could record the finale"
"Oh, we are!" I face palm while mom starts cracking her neck
"Maya, leave!" she doesn't even have repeat it a second time since she's already out, wise decision
"Maya would never... Aw, you scared my friend away" Auggie walks in with an envelopoe
"You ready, buddy?" he nods
"I just hope she doesn't get at me" I smile
"Oh, she could never be mad at you. Now, go!"
" I would like to, at this time, thank you for all you do and give you this card to lift your spirits, because you're so disappointed in Riley"
"Okay, Auggie, thank you"
"The card has a dollar in it. All you do is give, give, give to Riley, and I've given you a dollar. Think about it"
"Auggie?"
"Think about it" Auggie and I high five
"Do you think that worked" I shake my head
"Absolutely not, but it held her back for a minute. Good job"
"Riley-"
"Was I not a good child?"
"You were a very good child"
"Am I not a good person?"
"Get there"
"I believe I am entitled-" Oh, no, she didn't. Please tell me that she didn't!
"Ooh, what was that you just said?"
"What?"
"That word that you just used. What was it?"
"I believe I am entitled to be in charge of my own life now"
"Uh-huh. And I believe I am entitled to ground you for two weeks, but I'm not going to do that"
"Good"
"I'm going to ground you for three weeks. You sat in the bay window for three days. No computer, no phone, no finale. You sit here, and you think about how maybe you are a good person now, but it's because your parents raised you right. And we helped you make all of the right decisions, except for this one! Because that's what ending with the entitlement you believe you're due. So, you sit. And you think. And if you think correctly, at the end of three weeks, I'll get an apology" she looks outside the window, where Maya is
"Hey, you. Go home. She's grounded"
"Okay" well, seems like Maya won't listen to mom either because as soon as she walks out she comes back in
"Okay. I thought about it" Riley grabs her laptop but I warn her
"Riley..."
"Elliot, don't tel me you're standing by her side" I sigh
"I'm not. But I'm not standing by your either. Listen, just listen to her, okay? Tonight you'll watch the finale with me on my phone"
"Riles, I think you should listen to Elliot on this" she hesitates for a while but then opens her laptop
"Riley!" I call her out but she keeps ignoring me to type on the keyboard but mom comes back in and closes it.
"Mom, come on, calm down" she takes all of our phones instead, even Maya's
"You can do this?" she's so adorable with that little phone
"Yes, yes I can. I'll call your mom to tell her" I sigh
"Come on, I'm gonna walk you home"
"Thank you, Elliot. But you don't have to. It's getting pretty late and it could get dangerous" everyone frowns, including me
"That's exactly why I wanna walk you home"
"Listen, Elliot-"
"No, you listen: I'm not gonna let you get hurt and I also don't wanna be here. I don't know if you've noticed but there's a certain tension between the two ladies here and I definitely don't wanna be involved in it any further" I whisper to her and she sighs
"Yeah, I think you can come I guess"
"Great! See you guys later" we climb out of the window and start walking towards her building
"Okay, I want you to put your hood in and walk with your head low" I raise my eyebrows
"What? Why?"
"We're pretty close to my neighborhood and we don't need to draw attention towards us. Especially if you're 6'0 tall"
"Okay I'm not 6'0"
"Then how tall are you" I look around, trying to avoid her gaze
"I'm... 6'2"
"That's what I was talking about. You're literally a giant" I roll my eyes
"Or maybe you're just a dwarf"
"Hey!" she punches my arm
"Ow!"
"You deserved it" I chuckle
"I did"
"Come on now, put your hood on" I whine
"But... my hair will get messy" she groans
"Are you serious?!" she puts it on me anyways
"Hey!"
"Lower your head and shut up!"
"Okay, geez" I do as she tells me to and she grabs my hand, why? Isn't she in a relationship with Lucas?
"Maya-"
"Calm down. If they see us holding hands then they'd be less inclined to approach me since you're tall ad pretty fit" I nod
"Oh, okay" we walk past a group of men and one of them whistles at Maya who simply sighs
"Nice ass!"I feel my blood boiling
"What did you just say?" I ask raising my head and Maya tightens the grip on my hand
"Elliot, please. Don't"
"I said nice ass! You've got something to say about it?"
"I do!"
"Elliot..." she wraps her arms around my left one when she notices that my muscles are tensing up
"Oh yeah?"
"No! We're fine!" she starts dragging me away
"Come on, let's go" I keep glaring at the guy. How could he say that to a girl? A minor?!
"Do it again and you're dead, buddy" his friends and him laugh
"Yeah, whatever"
"Look, we're already here" she opens the front door and we take the elevator
"Maya, how could you let him talk to you like that?" she shrugs while we come inside the apartment
"I kinda got used to it at this point"
"He has done it other times?" she frowns
"Maybe, I don't know. A lot of people say that stuff around here"
"Thank god that your mom and uncle Shawn are looking for a new apartment" she sighs
"Yeah, I can't wait to see where we're going to end up"
"What's wrong?" she looks around
"You know, this place is very special to me. It contains a lot of memories. And even though most of them are sad..." I totally understand what she's talking about, her dad. I've noticed how the light in her eyes disappeared
"Some of them are actually happy and lighthearted"
"Oh yeah?" she nods
"Would you like telling me one?" she smiles and we both sit down of her bed
"Well, there isn't a specific one, but a period"
"Tell me about it" she grabs her sketching book and starts drawing, she looks so... peaceful? I've never noticed how much she has matured. I met her when she was just a broken seven-year-old and now... now she's this strong woman who isn't scared to say what she's in her mind.
"Back in middle school, when I was in sixth grade, you know, during our little..." I chuckle
"Yeah, I remember"
"Well, you would always visit me back then, making me feel less... lonely. I was always alone here and your company really made me feel happier" I frown
"What happened?" she stops drawing to look at me with a puzzled expression on her face
"What do you mean?"
"Between us. We were always together back then. Heck, we were even closer than you and Riley" she tilts her head
"After we broke things off things got awkward between us. Then you started high school and had to balance it with your work at Topanga's, your training for football tryouts, studies, new friends and your family. It's pretty obvious that you didn't have enough time for all of that"
"I could've done a better job"
"I think you handled it pretty well" I raise my eyebrows
"You think?"
"Yeah, I mean, of course you had to cut a few things out of your life but you managed to keep your job, become the nerd's and the football's team captain and gain popularity. That's pretty impressive"
"Yeah, but I cut you out" she faints a smile
"It's fine, I understand"
"I wanna go back to being the best of friends and have the longest conversations ever, like we used to. What do you think?" her smile grows wider
"Sounds great to me" we then hear a knock on the door
"Coming" Maya stands up and opens it. Is that Riley? What is she doing here?!
"Hi, honey, I'm home"
"What happened?"
"We're roommates! Like we always wanted, yay! And Elliot's here with us too! This is the happiest day of my life"
"You and me forever"
"Doing what we want"
"Whatever we want"
"Whenever we wanna do it"
"What's the first thing you wanna do?" I ask her
"Go home and be loved, but my parents don't love me anymore" I sigh
"They love you forever"
"They took everything, Elliot. I have nothing. All I have is my bunny nightlight, Horatio P. Hare"
"What's the 'P' stand for?"
"Rabbit" Does she know that- whatever
"Riley-"
"Call me poor little Riley"
"Poor little Riley
"I need to prepare myself for my new life. I need to read Oliver Twist, get gloves with no fingers, and see Annie" Maya points at her
"Yeah, and if this is your only outfit, then what did you plan on wearing to school tomorrow and for the rest of your life?"
"Well... I was hopeful that you would lend me one of your old outfits just until I got myself on my feet, and... began my job search. Just give me any old thing that you're not using anymore"
"Come on Riley, let's go home" the two girls ignore me. It's almost as if they were on their own little world and it sucks not being part of it.
"Okay, so what job are you gonna interview for first?"
"Editor of Vogue"
"That's your first job out of school?"
"I believe I'm qualified"
"What's on your resume?"
"Editor of Vogue?"
"Then welcome to Vogue!" they shake hands
"Oh, really, I got it?"
"What are you gonna do first?"
"Call my mom and tell her, because I want her to be so proud of me" they hug
"Oh, honey. Let it out"
"I want to go home, Maya. I hurt my mom. But I can't go home"
"Why not?"
"Because I don't want her to win"
"Riley, your mother is the strongest, smartest woman I know. This isn't gonna break her. Nothing can break her"
"Okay, I just need to stop thinking about this. I'm just gonna go to sleep. Where do I sleep, please?"
"Oh, we can sleep in my bunk beds"
"Ooh, you have bunk beds? Where?"
"You get the lower!" I look down to see ginger walking out of it
"The lower is taken"
"Come on Riley, let's just go home. I'l be by your side when she'll kill you, okay?" she nods
"Okay" I stand up from the bed
"Goodbye, Maya. See you soon. I mean it this time" she smiles
"Bye guys" I kiss her head and walk away

Maya's POV

When they leave I hear a strong and repetitive knock on the window so I open it
"Lucas? What are you doing here?" he looks upset
"Well, I came here to talk about the Red Planet Diaries Finale but then I saw you and Elliot talking"
"Oh yeah, he offered to walk me home since it was getting pretty late" he bites his lip
"How sweet of him"
"I know, right? I even declined and said no but he insisted"
"I also saw Riley, here..." he chuckles
"Why was she wearing your old clothes?" he asks with amusement
"She wanted to live with me ad become my roommate" he laughs and climbs through the window
"Oh, it also noticed that Elliot kissed your head" I frown
"Yeah, he always does it" he doesn't reply and just looks around the room, trying to avoid my glaze as I'm trying to analyze him.
"Oh my gosh, you're jealous!" he blushes
"No, I am not" I laugh
"Stop laughing at me" I cup his face
"I'm sorry" I chuckle
"Lucas, you have nothing to worry about, seriously. We're friends, that's all we are right now: friends"
"I just can't help it. There's something in the way you look at each other, the way you talk and have deep conversations..."
"Hey, it's you that I love. I have different relationships with all of you: I talk with Riley about girl stuff, with Zay I talk about crazy things like pranks or how we should dominate the world together, while I talk with Farkle and Smakle when I'm confused about something -mostly homework- and with Elliot I talk about feelings that I still don't fully understand and ask for his help to understand them since he's older and has more experience in that"
"And what do you talk about with me?" I bite my lip, he really got me there
"With you I make fun of your Texan heritage and tease you for being such a nice guy. But I only do it because I'm still not fully used to express my feelings in a proper way" I wrap my arms around his neck
"So you'd rather bring my self esteem down rather than telling me what you really feel?"
"Well, if you put it that way it sounds very harsh..." I take a deep breath
"Do you know what Huckleberry mean?" he shakes his head
"I have no idea" I look down and then back up
"It means hero" he smiles
"That's what you are to me: a hero"
"Well, that's very nice" I nervously chuckle
"Thank you. You don't know how much research I put into finding that word. I had to find something that nobody knew the meaning of"
"You did a research? For me?" I roll my eyes
"Yeah" I admit, shyly
"You're the best" he whispers before kissing me slowly.
"I love you" I tug at the hem of his shirt, pulling him closer
"Love you too" I stand on my toes. Why is everyone else growing up except for me? This is so frustrating
"Are you frustrated?" he asks me in between kisses
"Kinda, you're too tall for me" he chuckles and pulls his head up so that we aren't kissing anymore
"Lucas!" I groan and he laughs
"Really? Is that really how you wanna play this?" he shrugs and I nod
"Okay" I smirk and his smile falls
"Oh, I know that look. And I don't like it, at all" I don't reply to him. Instead I jumps and wrap my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck
"Now I'm taller than you"
"Yes, yes you are" he pulls a strain of hair that was in front of my face behind my ear and kisses me again
"You have no idea how crazy I am for you" he pulls away and starts kissing my neck
"Damn" I say when a moan escapes my lips. I'm pretty sure I've never moaned my whole life. What is this boy doing to me? I don't know how but we end up on my bed, still making out. I decide to give him the pleasure he gave me earlier back so I start kissing his neck and he growls
"Maya, we should-"
"Shut up" I take off his shirt. I don't even dare to think about what I'll do next, to make this continue. Or worse, make it stop. Our steamy make out session is soon interrupted by the sound of a door opening
"Oh my gosh, go hide in the closet!" I push him away and he runs there in the exact moment that Ms. Matthews comes in. What is she doing here?
"I surrender. You are a good person, and you're the best daughter anyone could have"
"Thanks, not my ma" I reply, out of breath
"Not you. Where's Riley?"
"She went to apologize to you. She's been crying all night. She felt horrible. I would've called to tell you, but, oh, hey, I can't"
"Oh. Yeah, okay" she gives me my phone back
"Maya?"
"Yes?"
"Shawn is gonna be here in five minutes" I frown
"Wh-" she knocks on my closet
"Get out of there, kid!" the door opens, revealing Lucas. At least he has his shirt back on
"I'm warning you: Cory explained him how to deal with you so you better prepare your boots, got it?" he nods
"And don't do anything yet! You're too young!"
"But-"
"I'll make sure Cory gives you 'the talk'"
"No! Please! Fine! We'll stay pure until marriage but please don't let him give us the talk!" she smiles
"Good girl" she walks away and Lucas looks shocked
"What?" I ask him
"Did you just say marriage?" Holy crap
