"Isn't that guy in another class? I saw him this morning in the courtyard."

His blush depended in hue, and a wide smile spread across my face. Growing up Caleb and I would play matchmaker with the kids in our grade. We would sit over at a separate lunch table and people-watch until we decided who liked who.

'Now that I think about it, that's probably why he's so good at reading people.'

"Don't worry I won't tell anyone. I do think you should tell him how you feel though."

He visibly relaxed and let a half smile cross his face.

"Thanks for... you know, not making a big deal about it."

"It's because it isn't a big deal you're allowed to like whoever you want."

He opened his mouth to respond but was cut off by the classroom door opening. Everyone turned in their seats to see who was joining our class. I was surprised, to say the least when Luka strolled into the classroom, backpack slung over his shoulder looking as carefree as ever. He had the decency to look sheepish when he handed Ms. Bustier a late slip.

"Sorry for being late, the front office switched my classes around last second."

"That's quite all right, why don't you sit with..."

She scanned the room in compilation, eyes landing on a space next to me.

"Why don't you bring a chair over and sit with y/n and Nathaniel in the back."

At the mention of my name, he looked over and his face lit up. I waved at him while he grabbed an unused chair from the side of the room and dragged it unceremoniously up the stairs to our desk. He wedged the chair behind the desk, and the teacher went back to taking attendance.

I scooted in so I now sat between the two. Luka set his bag down in the aisle and turned to both of us.

"Hey I'm Luka, but you already know me."

He gave me a cheeky smile and rested his chin on his palm. I playfully nudged his shoulder.

"This is Nathaniel."

Said the redhead giving a small nod in greeting.

"I like your sketches they're really go-"

"Dude, how are you in my class?"

Juleka asked her brother, completely monotone, rolling her eyes. He shrugged, leaning back in his seat.

"We both knew this was a possibility when I took that gap year. The front office just handed me a schedule and here I am."

"Now I gotta deal with you all year."

"Love you too."

I found that time flew by with my new friend group, and even when homework started to pick up in the next few days I still looked forward to going to school every day. My days were filled with spending time getting to know my new friends, I did homework in the bakery with Marinette, and I hung out with Nathaniel in the art room. Nino and I would compete on who could rap faster, and Jukeka and Rose would sneak me snacks in the middle of class. I'm pretty close with everyone now, except Chloe and Sabrina. It was very apparent the moment we met that I would not be friends with them anytime soon. Especially after I watched them pick on others for the majority of every class. Chloe, whenever she opened her mouth, spewed insults and negativity. Luckily they don't seem to care about me.

Over the next few weeks, I also learned that Marinette had a huge crush on Adrien, which explains why she turns into a puddle of goo when he's around. So I've been keeping my distance from him to not upset her. But he is very persistent, for some odd reason. Constantly sitting down next to me at lunch or walking up the stairs to lean against my desk and chat with everyone on class breaks.
