Seeing another grape roll into her papers Anne looked up at the blonde girl who laid on her black couch on the other side of her office. A bowl of fruit laying on her stomach as she threw another grape.

"Can you not find anything to do?" Anne said eating the fruit. She lifted her arm up and looked at her golden watch. "Morgan should be here in ten minutes just chill."

Rolling her eyes Ruby put the clear bowl on the floor and groaned. She stretched her arms out as she made loud noises to show her boredom.

Smiling the brunette crossed her legs and watched the girl's stomach come into the light as she rolled off of the furniture. She couldn't help but smile when she looked at the blonde. Her heart would light up, even though she was behind on her work and there was so much to do all her stress simply washed away. "Come here." She whispered rolling her chair back and patting her lap.

Ruby skipped over and sat down on the woman, wrapping her arms around her neck as Anne looked her over. "What are you working on?"

"Payroll." The brunette sighed picking up her pen. "It's just a lot of signatures." They studied the large desk that was consumed by loose papers and files.

"Oh do I get a paycheck for putting up with your old ass?"

"You think you put up with me?"

"I may be annoying but you have me on the edge of hypothermia every day."

Anne laughed. "You were sweating last night so I don't know what you want from me."

Ruby narrowed her eyes and nodded. "You win this round."

Mattie stuck her head in with the phone to her chest. "Sorry to interrupt you have a call on line one, a Larissa?"

Ruby jumped up with an open mouth. "Oh my god can I answer?"

Jumping up and down as the brunette nodded Ruby tried containing her excitement as she held her hand on the phone while she calmed herself.

Anne laughed and waved over her assistant.

Clearing her throat Ruby waited for the other blonde to sit before she put the phone up to her ear, "Larissa! It's Ruby, what can we do for you?"  She bit her bottom lip trying to hold in her smile as a muffled female voice spoke on the other end. "Oh." Ruby shook her head and made a clicking sound with her tongue. "I wish we could but we will be going to Spain that week to help volunteer at an orphanage!"

Mattie raised her eyebrows.

"I know maybe we can raincheck. I don't think there's much of a chance for us to to cancel. You understand don't you?"

Anne rolled her eyes and threw her pen onto her desk.

""Of course Larissa I'll let you know....ok...ok...alright bye bye now." Hanging up the phone. Ruby looked over at Anne, "What a raging cunt." Laughing she grabbed a grape that had gone unnoticed on the woman's desk. "She wanted you to drop by her house party so she could catch up." Ruby mocked raising her voice to sound higher.

"Go ahead and block her number Mattie." Anne went back to her papers. "And walk Ruby to the elevators please. I think Morgan is here."

"Of course Ms. Frey."

"I think I'm capable of walking by myself."

"If you go alone you touch everything and get distracted. I don't want your grimy little fingerprints everywhere doll." Smiling she stood up and kissed her cheek. "I'll see you at five."

Rolling her eyes she followed Anne's assistant out to the hallway. "How long have you worked here?"

"Three years." Mattie answered.

"Wow, I don't think I would be able to do your job. Anne's a bitch sometimes."

The two blondes looked at each other and smiled.

"Do you like working here?"

Mattie nodded. "It's hard to find a good job that pays well."

Ruby nodded. "Well stay in your lane and leave the fucking to me and I'll make sure your job is secured." They both stopped as they waited for the elevator to open up. They stared at each for a moment with blank faces

Mattie finally smiled and held her hand out. "Deal." Shaking hands, Mattie watched Ruby slip into the closing elevator and sighed seeing the numbers light up and the arrow ding. She respected that. A lot of times the woman Ms. Frey went out with weren't very memorable, but she respected a woman who could stand up for herself. It seemed like a dying breed.

Opening her bosses door she went back inside and stood still waiting for her to look up.

"Yes?" Anne finally said still looking down.

"I like her."

The brunette looked up with a smirk. "You usually hate the girl's I date."

"She's different." Mattie sighed. "Don't fuck this one up."

"You want me to keep her around even if that means we won't see each other anymore?"

The blonde thinned her lips but nodded.

Anne let her eyebrows jump as she leaned back in her chair. "Not much room to grow if you can't fuck your boss anymore is there?"

"Well here I was thinking she made you nicer."

"She's not here." Anne laughed, the wrinkles on around her mouth becoming visible. "I'm working on it, give me time." She waved her over. "I know I'm not the nicest boss but you have done amazing working for me." She handed her a stack of papers. "Schedule the rest of my meetings this afternoon please."

Mattie took the papers into her arms and smiled. "Yes Ms. Frey. I'm guessing from now on I shouldn't schedule anything after five?"

Anne nodded and picked her pen back up.

"Excuse me sir." Mattie went past the older man in the doorway to her desk.

Anne furrowed her brows and chewed on the end of her pen. "What do you need Morgan?"

"I thought you wanted me to pick up Ruby?" He curled his hat in his hands and looked around the office.

"She went down five minutes ago to meet you."

"I just got here."

The two of them stared at each other for a moment. Their hearts fell almost simultaneously as they ran out the door.
